Sigh of relief.....don't read if you are pregnant.....

I just wanted to say bravo for taking a horrible tragic situation and turning it into a reminder to your co-workers how very important and personal their job is. I've seen how easy it is for medicine to become "just a job" after awhile. However it is a job that holds life daily. A reminder to everyone how wonderfully and frighteningly important what you do as a nurse is. Thank you.

We had a pt last year that came in with a low wandering baseline. We moved pretty quick getting the strip evaluated and calling her attending. She begged to go to the bathroom and another nurse let her. When she came back the baby had no HR. It killed me and I questioned nursing for the 2 days it took to get her delivered. The baby was a severe IUGR and the placenta was crap. Her baby weighed 2lbs @ 37 weeks. Her MD never caught on that the baby was in trouble. It kills me that someone screwed up and that baby had to die.

Mom is expecting again and comes in regularly to try to make peace with her PTSD before she delivers. She has a new OB. It is just so bittersweet.

I am really glad to have found you. I don't have many online buds to chat about work with!
