I'll admit it. I'm confused, and a little frustrated ( Read more... )

I'll be interested to see what you dig up -- I was just searching on this myself.

Not entirely satisfied with the research or sources, but I found at least a stumbling figure below. :)

Are you including the death rate for the last two years as well?

I mean, I don't know who the undead would vote for...but the dead aren't allowed to vote.

I neither included death figures or how many <18 year olds became 18 in the two years. I hope they balance each other out even enough to be a wash.

As Jon Stewart said, "The dead are obviously overwhelmingly in favor of McCain"

Crap, man! Pundits have said EVERYTHING this season. I mainly watch News8, and while I'm not 100% certain, I believe it was a discussion between Beverly Kirk and Dave Lucas. I knew the estimate was unattainably high, but what am ambitious goal to look forward to!

I am still looking. Interesting reading found on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election (especially near the end), but still only refers to figures, not nails them down. My Google-fu, so far, is not up to this challenge. I continue my attempt to "snatch the pebble".

Okay - a source, but not one I entirely trust.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_registered_voters_in_the_United_states_in_2008

They propose "169 million registered - 86 million democrat - 55 million republican - 28 million others registered."

If that were the case (which it might be), then that would be just under a 70% voter turnout. THAT makes me happier to think about, but still... ~1/3 of all registered and eligible voters stayed home? That continues to be fascinating to me.

Take a special look at the numbers they reflect for who is registered for which parties. If 51% are registered Democrat, 32.5% are registered Republican and 16.5% are "Other", look at who that says didn't vote during this election. It would appear that either a lot of Democrats voted for McCain, or most Democrats chose to support Mario the plumber from the Mushroom Kingdom over Joe the plumber from Ohio. *mutter*grumble*snort*

i truly hope Joe the Plumber from the Mushroom Kingdom goes away after this election and goes back to his own phantom business.

his fifteen minutes are really over.

Was watching CNN or MSNBC today (I keep flipping back and forth) and they said 64% of eligible voters turned out. The highest turnout in a CENTURY. Up from 2004 by 12%.

Not 90%, but still pretty awesome!
