The Library, Friday Evening

May 02, 2014 16:21

For their last night in Fandom, Sholeh had asked Mr. Constantine if she could host a small dinner party in the library. It only seemed fitting; it was her favorite place in the whole school, after all, and these were her favorite people. Okay, Dr. Lecter was more Zhari's guest, but that was fair. After all, they were all leaving ( Read more... )

Hannibal didn't often eat things that other people cooked, and especially not off of paper. But Zhari had been a lovely student, and he supposed that on the off-chance he was sending her off to be killed, it would be polite not to make a fuss.

He smiled at the wide array of food. "I will miss such enthusiasm."

This was Sparkle, kind of shimmying over to Hannibal.

... And giving the dinosaur a wide berth. Because, really.

"Getting really tired of people taking off," he muttered, once he was within earshot. "They need to stop doing that."

"It is the time of year for it, I imagine," Hannibal answered, not unkindly. "Although some may return once classes begin again."

"Maybe," Sparkle sighed. "Just not, like, any of the ones I hang around."

Atton, Alec, now Sholeh...

"Kinda looking forward to those auditions now, actually."

To say that Yeul was sad... wouldn't exactly be true. Though she'd felt unaccountably pensive and even a bit anxious during her portals back to Fandom, from Thessia, to say goodbye.

Hurrying wasn't something Yeul did, and she rarely ever cared if she was on time or not, since time was something she never ran out of... but now she sort of had, in one sense.

It was a complicated, and unusual, feeling for her.

"Hello!" she said, peeking in the library, her usual smile in place despite her quiet, internal turmoil. "I hope I am not late?"

Yeul honestly didn't know if she was or not. That seemed like a good place to start. (Or to end?)

"You're here with plenty of time to spare," Evan offered, glancing up from where he had a dinosaur half curled around him. Ozzy had wandered off to nap elsewhere, putting some distance between himself and Old Lace. "Hey, Yeul."

"Hello, Evan," Yeul said lightly. "I think I will always have time to spare. It is other peoples' time that I may not have."

She tilted her head slightly as she took in his companion. "Are you babysitting today?"

Perhaps petsitting was the right term instead?

Ah, talking about other people's time...

Evan's face fell a little, and he shook his head.

"Not technically," he murmured. "I kind of... inherited her. From Gert."

This had not been an awesome week.

"Did you know Gert?"

Evan was here, looking a little more down than he had expected he was going to look tonight, with a dinosaur in tow. People probably weren't expecting Old Lace to be tagging along today, but when he'd tried to leave the room, she'd looked at him with huge, sad eyes, and all things considered...

And then Ozzy had started to whine, and Evan supposed Sholeh would like to say goodbye to him too, and...

Look, Evan kind of needed the cuddlefest. It had been a pretty rotten week.

Zhahar was still in view, fussing with the table, but she looked up to give Evan a quiet smile. "Hi, Evan. You don't mind if--"

And then Old Lace followed in behind him.

"That's a dinosaur, right? Why do you have a dinosaur?"

And there was a pang, right there. Evan was going to kind of ignore the stab in his chest. Old Lace, on the other hand, was going to whine a little.

... Having a telepathic dinosaur apparently made it hard to have feelings without everyone knowing.

"I don't know if you knew Gert or not," he mumbled. "She used to belong to her."

"I don't think I did," Zhahar said apologetically. "Did she graduate and have to leave?"

She could understand not being able to bring a pet dinosaur home from the island. She was just grateful they'd never gotten a pet while they were at Fandom, or Evan might have ended up with a third animal to call his own.

"Oh, shit." Sparkle really hadn't been expecting it, but his face lit up a little when he spotted the Nanaimo bars. "No way. I haven't seen these things in two years."

It made him feel marginally better about how much he hated the island, and this week, and everything. He'd brought a present for the girls, because of course he wasn't going to let them leave without stocking them up on make-up first, and he'd even shown up sober.

That was how much he cared, Sho. Sober. This week of all weeks.

"I saw them and thought of you," Zhari said softly. "I hope they came out okay."

Zhahar and Sparkle hadn't really gotten along even before the whole vampire fiasco, but she'd seen them and thought they'd make a better peace offering than anything she could say.

"They're way too sweet and the chocolate is melting all over my fingers," Sparkle replied. "Which means you made them perfectly. Thanks, Zhahar."

He licked off his fingers, and then held one up, shrugging his backpack off his shoulder and going for a rummage.

"Got something for you three, too."

"Sholeh is saying that you didn't have to and Zeela's saying, 'Good,' so I guess I'm going to wait until I see what it is to decide what to say," she said with a small attempt at a smile.

Part of Cecil wasn't really sure about this - honestly, if his roommate hadn't gone feral on him all year, why should she start now? But on the other hand, librarians were tricky, and maybe she'd waited to lull him into a false sense of security?

He was glad to see other folks here, too. And Evan! She liked Evan, so maybe there would be minimal bloodshed and sacrifice after all.

He had brought Foucault for backup, though.

Sholeh didn't plan on their being bloodshed and sacrifice, but she did have sort of a surprise in store.

"Hi, Cecil," Zhahar said, coming up to greet him. "And Foucault, too. I wasn't sure if he was coming, but I brought him some fruit and things to nibble if you did."

Don't worry, Cecil. There'd be an explanation why this vaguely-familiar blonde was greeting you like she'd known you for a year very soon.

"Um. Hello?" Cecil gave her a little wave. "And thank you! I'm sure he really appreciates that." Cecil might not be sure who she was, but anyone that thought of Foucault was okay with him.

Foucault eyed Zhahar curiously and cutely.

"I guess some introductions are due," Zhahar said. "I'm Zhahar, Sholeh's sister. And before you ask, no, I'm not here to escort her home. I've been with her the whole time she was here."

And, just a few seconds later, Sholeh was standing in front of him. "Hi, Cecil. I was intending to tell you sometime that you shared the room with three girls, not one, but...I kinda ran out of time. Sorry."
