Snape's Patronus

I'm confused.

Is Snape's patronus a doe because of Lily, or because of Harry?

Because of Lily and the love he always had for her.

But wouldn't his be the male version of Lily's patronus? I imagine James' patronus was a stag, which is why Lily's is a doe. I don't get why Snape's patronus is female.

I think Lilly's patronus was a doe because she fell in love with James, and Snape's patronus has always just been the same as Lilly's.
