The twins sprung into action immediately, a whirl of flour and chocolate and sugar. Kaoru and Hikaru knew the basics -- they had combed Haruhi's brain several times for more tips -- so the three of them were somewhat in tune with each job required.
Kaoru kept half an eye on the other tables as they worked, watching to make sure they stayed ahead and also just to watch the other's antics-- namely, Tamaki's dramatics.
Kaoru caught Hikaru's eyes and grinned. Beating Tono's team would be easy. Hani's might present a problem, but Kaoru was confident.
Hikaru grinned back at his twin. This was how it was supposed to be--the three buddies battling boredom and defeating Tono! Or... something like that. It was at least going to keep the Hitachiin boys entertained for some time, which was quite alright with him.
"Ne, I wonder how many votes we'll get," he said casually with a smirk--his question truly implying I wonder how many votes we'll have between us and Tono. The young man struggled for a moment with the lid to the baking powder, the fingers of his left hand still rendered rather useless by the cast.
"Tch," he snorted. Hikaru was still thrown off-balance by the cast in more ways than one. "Open this for me," he ordered (forget asking), holding out the screw-lid bottle to Kaoru and Haruhi.
Instantly Kaoru's eyes went wide, taking the bottle from his brother and proclaiming in an overly-loud voice, "Hikaru! My poor brother is so bothered by his cast!"
The bottle was shoved in Haruhi's hands so that Kaoru could properly drape his arms around his brother. "So brave... Hikaru, if I could take your pain and make it my own, I would in an instant!"
(totally forgot I tracked this with my regular journal ;;;;;; and I was wondering why I got two replies lol)
"Kaoru..." Hikaru began, feigning surprise at his brother's actions. "I could never burden you with my pain, Kaoru..." With his good hand, he traced his fingers down the mirror-image in front of him.
Let the girls milk it up.... Really, he was quite sure they could win if Haruhi made the cake and they pleased the fangirls. That really didn't sound like such a bad idea. But no, the point of team work was to... work together, wasn't it? Some weird commoner's mantra or whatever.
