Bentley was only there because he was expecting that Sly would turn up, as he said he was coming to the party. But he soon parked beside the bar, a short distance from the RED, in his much smaller wheelchair and helped himself to a soda. Mingling was not his forte and never had been.
WHEELCHAIR PARTY \o/hasstandardsDecember 28 2011, 01:33:29 UTC
And unfortunately, it wasn't RED's strong point, either. He pushed another pretzel into his mouth, eyeing the smaller wheelchair within eyeshot of his own. At first, he thought it was a toy of some sort, some child's plaything that had been set in the chair for inexplicable reasons. He froze when he saw it move to grab a drink from the bar, transfixed, the pretzel slipping from his fingers without notice
( ... )
Bentley was unaware for the moment he had an unnerved audience watching him him, sipping his drinking as he scanned the party for any sign of his friends. Of course, in looking around he finally noticed and raised an eyebrow at him.
[You might be surprised how much of a party they could have with no dialogue. XD]
RED turned away automatically as the turtle suddenly looked his way, feeling himself stiffen. He scratched at the side of his face, finger splints clacking together as he adjusted his glasses and mumbled an apologetic word. "Pardon."
With that, he went back to pointedly averting his eyes. Yes, it did appear to be exactly what he'd though it was: a turtle wearing glasses and moving about in a wheelchair. And he thought he looked strange in a sweater with dog ears on the hood.
"Oh it's quite alright. I'm sure we're both a little odd to each other."
As far as Bentley was concerned, an injured guy in a dog-eared hoodie was far stranger than he was...but not the strangest thing he'd seen. Humans didn't exist in his world.
And then said turtle spoke to him. He took a breath, trying to settle his nerves. This was fine- there were talking animals running around Paradise and that was perfectly normal somehow. He wasn't going mental because he was about to engage in a conversation with a turtle, a creature whose shell he'd been using for an ash tray for several years.
"Odd's one way of putting it," he replied, trying to act as nonchalant as possible. "Just not used to animals talking back."
Talking in a nasally nerdy voice too. Bentley set his drink aside and leaned fully back in his chair. It was probably best he didn't know Sniper used turtleshell ashtrays.
"Trust me, I know the feeling. There aren't any humans were I'm from so this is a new experience for me. I had only met the Engineer before."
A place with no people? That sounded like something out of some children's story, and even then it was a stretch. Still, at least they had something in common, aside from the chairs- they were both inexperienced in talking with... well, folks not of their own species.
"None at all? We've at least got turtles where I come from. None that talk or sit about in chairs, though."
"None, although aside from physical differences I don't think we're that different." Wai until RED found out he was an American turtle living in Paris.
"I am curious whether you humans live everywhere in your world or mainly in specific places like we do."
Now there were some common creatures, even put in the right places. "Yeah, I'd say so. We've got dingo and kangaroo in the Outback. Just that they don't talk... which I expect they do for you."
"That isn't exactly what I meant," Sniper said, taking a cursory glance of the area. Pyro was still talking to Medic- why couldn't she come over and handle the talking animal? She seemed to like them so much. "I meant that they can't talk."
"I was kidding." Bentley knew what he'd meant of course, it didn't take a high IQ to figure that much out. "There are some wildlife of course, but the odds of meeting any near civilization is usually very slim."
Sniper crunched on another pretzel for a second, something coming together in his drug-addled mind. "Wait, back up. You're animals, and there are wild animals, too?"

((ooc: Can't be a party if they don't speak. ^^))

But then, in Bentley's line of work, the people he dealt with were more interested in shooting than talking to him.
