when your sister asks, 'What did you want to be when you were small?' and you say, 'Astronaut, painter (!), singer, writer, vice-ruler of the world, teacher, scientist...'

and realise that 'lawyer' was not on the list.

We can all be more than one thing. Some writers, for instance, start a second career when they retire from the thing that paid the bills and saved for retirement all those years. Do keep your hand in, though, if you'd like to do that. No reason you can't incorporate some of these other things into your life.

Oh I didn't mean to suggest I was unhappy! I was just taken aback that I'd never thought of being a lawyer. And hey, if I were to incorporate a second career I think I'll start with being vice-ruler of the world...:)

wasn't on mine either. at various points in my childhood i wanted to be a nun, a mother, or to run away and join the circus (this one was after reading an enid blyton book about running away with a circus).
