No skating today (Monday) b/c I had yet another dental appointment.  But least I’m pretty much done with it.  At least for awhile.  I ate lunch and was actually able to chew for the first time all month.  Very exciting.  I still need to have my front tooth done, but will wait until either winter or next summer break.  I’ve had enough dentistry for ( Read more... )

Of course you can do the asking! - and most men are flattered when you do!

Ah, that at least is the advantage of Scottish country dancing - you dance in sets, not individual couples, which I think works to the wallflower's advantage.

I'd like to learn ballroom dancing, but found it very difficult the two times I've had a go (Viennese waltz - which may have been a bit ambitious - and slow foxtrot, in which I was impaired by my dance partner). Also, J says I don't have a good enough sense of rhythm every time we do a St Bernard's waltz, and perhaps he's right!

Your title made me think of this video... though it's not exactly ballroom!

Vienese Waltz is actually quite a difficult dance to learn, not at all recommended for beginners - I've never attempted it.

Also, "rhythm" is something that can be learned. I often count out loud to the music.

IF J already knows how to waltz, ballroom might be a good activity for the two of you!

That video is hilarious in a horrifying kind of way.

I maintain I do have rhythm; it's just not as good as J's.

Neither of us can do a classic waltz. St Bernard's Waltz isn't really proper waltzing - it's very slow and easy and gentle, though it does have a one-two-three rhythm.

J is typical of the men I know who country dance, in that he refuses to learn anything complicated (like how to do the proper footwork) and tends to stick to the same four or five dances that he knows well. Given that he's English and never did this until he was about 20, this isn't bad going.

I used to be on a Highland/country dance team at school, so am capable of rather more complicated stuff, but I've forgotten most of the more complex dances.

Well there's no way I could skate for three hours. Two or maybe 2.5 is tops. Great on the compliment from DB. I, FWIW, also think you have nice carriage. Your work on AW and EW really sounded good. I couldn't believe you also did ballroom for four frakking (yes, I'm a Battlestar G fan, too....) hours after that! You go, girl!

Boy - 7 hours of "me" time - you must not have a husband and/or kids. (Envy)

Its good that coach forces you out of comfort zone. Waltz position can be scary. Remember, when you are going backwards, YOU ARE LEADING!

Keep up the good work on AM & EW 3's - it took me months to get comfortable partnering the european - my coach was very patient and worked on one thing at a time. It SLOWLY falls into place.

You should have dropped a dress size after the days activities!
