[The lake is actually quite nice this time of day. It's quiet, and there's a nice rock to sit on. Even a few smaller rocks to absently toss in the water. This is an excercise in calm, for someone who certainly needs it these days ( Read more... )

[Without having an entire city to watch over, Hawke is making twice the effort to keep an eye on his friends. Plus, after that whole zombie think, he's a little on the paranoid side of late.

Finding his pocket healer down by the lake he decides join him. This is the most peaceful Hawke has ever seen him. It worries him.]

You're quiet. It's never good when you get quiet.

Worried I'm plotting to destroy the keep?

[He looks over at Hawke for a moment, before tilting the book to display the doodles. And his notes.]

[But mostly doodles. Of big cats chewing on little armored figures.]

It brings back memories, to be honest. Not all pleasant, but something better than sitting and stewing in my own head.

Not really. I'm not the one who'll have to clean that mess up.

[Hawke eyes the doodles and smirks. At least it's not another page of his manifesto.

He takes a seat beside the mage.]

But how can slaughtering a templar or dozen be anything but a pleasant memory? Honestly I'm surprised you can stew at all with that tenant of yours.

Are you certain? Everyone seems to think you're the man to take care of their problems in Kirkwall. Why not here?

[The manifesto is under his pillow. Where any good manifesto should be kept.]

[He looks up, and shifts a little to give Hawke more room.]

Because I'm not always in control when the slaughtering templars happens, Hawke. Satisfying as it is, that sort of thing isn't something you can ignore.

And lately... it's... [He trails off, looking back down at the book.]

[Varric hadn't exactly been looking for company, wandering around outside, but when he spots Anders, he heads over without hesitation. Especially when he catches him smiling, which is both encouraging - Varric misses the times when Anders'd come down to the Hanged Man, let Varric buy him a drink and tell stories about the Blackmarsh and other Warden adventures - and, given recent events, somewhat worrying.

He comes up behind Anders, standing next to his rock and glancing at the scribbling.]

Taking a leaf out of my book, Blondie?

[Pun most likely intended.]

I think I value the use of my hands too much to even consider defiling your book, Varric.

[Well, and their friendship, but that goes without saying.]

[He tilts the book a little, revealing the doodles and half-finished maps of the keep.]

It brings back memories, in a way. Better ones.

[He chuckles lightly.]

Of everyone, I think you're the one most likely to get out of that with full function in your hands. Gotten a little too used to that healing they've got.

[And there's another chuckle after taking a peek at the doodles.]

Should've guessed it'd be cats. If it's bringing back better memories for you, draw away. I'll even provide the paper.

In that case, I value my dignity in your stories far too much.

[What dignity, Anders?]

Something has to. There isn't much else.
