10 [Accidental Video]

[Japan bumps the journal while he's working and it turns on, showing him at a table, concentrating hard on something. Instead of his usual kimono, he's wearing just a plain white t-shirt and has a white hachimaki tied around his forehead. Scattered all over the desk are electronic parts, illuminated by a single desk lamp, in various stages of ( Read more... )

[Robert was quite curious about this transmission - enough that it made him pay attention despite his depression. And then he recognizes Japan's voice - oh, Japan. That strange... living paradox. But he's a nice strange living paradox.]

Ah, Mr. Japan. ... Those were circuit boards, correct? [Ancient though they may be...]

Are you perhaps trying your hand at making the "television" device for Mr. Poland, then? [Robert has to give him credit for trying, even if it's unlikely that the parts will be easy to find.]

I would have wished to assist you if you found it troublesome. Though if it is physically demanding, I would likely not be much in the way of help. [Because Robert is a wimp.]

[Japan is back to normal now, the circuit boards gone and his usual clothes back in place.]

Yes, you are correct on both counts, Hastings-san.

Ah...you needn't trouble yourself. I am merely trying to do some of the more detailed work.

["Hastings-san." That... sounds like an interesting title.]

It is hardly a troubling thing to assist a fellow intellectual in creating technology. On the contrary, I was very enthusiastic to see your work. However, if it is not something you wish to broadcast, that is perfectly acceptable as well.

But perhaps sometime you would be more amicable to doing so? [Robert's totally excited to see that if he ever does.]

[This makes Robert as delighted as he can possibly be.]

Splendid. And perhaps I could even be of assistance - admittedly, likely highly limited assistance, but assistance regardless.

It is always so very fascinating to watch a genius at work. [Robert is gushing a bit. He can't help himself; this is the kind of nerdiness he has.]

Oh, nonsense. It is clear to see that you have much in the way of technological aptitude. [Robert's going to make Japan blush. Maybe.]

Such intelligence should be respected and lauded for what it is. After all, without it, there would be far less technology to begin with.

...... [Japan is mostly just shocked. He never thought someone would praise him in such a way.]

Your words are too kind, Hastings-san.

They are well-deserved, Mr. Japan.

At any rate, though, I would much like to see the progress you have made so far, if that is not troublesome for you. [Robert is even considering actually going over to where Japan is and watching in person if Japan doesn't want to broadcast it.]

Ah...I suppose that...would be allowable.

[He turns on the video a few minutes later and all the parts are extremely neatly arranged on the desk.]

[Robert is immediately fascinated and begins studying the parts (and how neatly they are arranged. Japan seems to have the same kind of OCD-like cleanliness he has...) on the desk.] I presume most of these parts are either discarded or from devices that already were present in the shops? Barring a direct request to the Malnosso - as distasteful as that prospect is - most parts here seem to be rather difficult to procure.

[Sorry for the wait. :( ]

Yes, that is correct. I've tried to do my best without having to rely upon the Malnosso.

...

Some were more difficult to reconstruct than others.

(OOC: Not a problem~ <3)

I would imagine. The technology here is... limited, to say the least. [Robert would describe it as archaic...] But that only makes your attempt more admirable.

The end result... what sort of properties should it have, if all goes well?

Ah....it is simply what I must do. As for the end result, it will be able to display images, of course. Just... [He pauses.] It's a television. For Poland-san.

Displaying images? Three-dimensional holographic images... or perhaps two-dimensional images like the ones transmitted by the journal network? [Two-dimensional is... well, it's a step down, but it can be worked with.

Mostly Robert's just curious to see a bona fide television one of these days.]

Does the television pick up signals in any specific way, or is it fed information from some sort of database?

[Voice] 4000excuses March 17 2011, 11:35:25 UTC
Ah...Two-dimensional for now. Three-dimensional televisions still require the use of specialized glasses that I am unable to recreate here as of now.

...

I apologize for the lack of technological progress.

[He pulls the camera away from the parts on the desk and bows his head.]

It is a digital feed, although the lack of a satellite system here will make...receiving signal difficult.
