10 [Accidental Video]

[Japan bumps the journal while he's working and it turns on, showing him at a table, concentrating hard on something. Instead of his usual kimono, he's wearing just a plain white t-shirt and has a white hachimaki tied around his forehead. Scattered all over the desk are electronic parts, illuminated by a single desk lamp, in various stages of ( Read more... )

[Robert was quite curious about this transmission - enough that it made him pay attention despite his depression. And then he recognizes Japan's voice - oh, Japan. That strange... living paradox. But he's a nice strange living paradox.]

Ah, Mr. Japan. ... Those were circuit boards, correct? [Ancient though they may be...]

Are you perhaps trying your hand at making the "television" device for Mr. Poland, then? [Robert has to give him credit for trying, even if it's unlikely that the parts will be easy to find.]

I would have wished to assist you if you found it troublesome. Though if it is physically demanding, I would likely not be much in the way of help. [Because Robert is a wimp.]

Oh, you hardly need to apologize for that. I doubt holovideos could be properly replicated with Lucetian technology, at any rate. But it is not an issue.

Hrm... Perhaps there would be some way to source signals from somewhere... though I haven't the faintest idea where from, specifically. The barrier likely prevents transmissions, though I have not tested this myself...

I believe the barrier does indeed block certain transmissions, but filming and producing videos within the barrier should be...possible. Theoretically.

If...it is no imposition, would it be possible to hear about these holovideos sometime in the future?

That makes sense... and there are admittedly many interesting things to film here in Luceti, so that might be worth the effort to do. There may even be a way to run the video feeds of the journals through the television systems...

[Robert brightens at the next part, smiling broadly (for him).] Ah, certainly, Mr. Japan. Hardly an imposition at all; I would be delighted to discuss it with you. If I ever obtain my nanocomputer here, I would be most happy to demonstrate.

Ah...I did not consider that... Thank you for your suggestion.

[Japan bows his head.] I would be honored.

You are most welcome. Were I able to come up with any others, I would inform you of them as well. [Robert nods a little.]

As would I. [And this is said very honestly.]

Your input is appreciated, Hastings-san. [He pauses for a moment.]

...Or would you prefer I call you Sensei? You are....a professor, yes?

Reply

[Voice] | fff he isn't technically supposed to know what sensei means in a way later thread semper_cogitans March 31 2011, 05:12:17 UTC
Yes, I am a professor... Normally I would be addressed as Professor Hastings, in the interests of professionalism.

However, any formal title is acceptable.

[Voice] | lmao it's okay. We'll just...pretend Japan never explained it. 4000excuses April 1 2011, 09:06:26 UTC
Ah, then I will follow your customs... [He pauses for a moment. Should he repeat them in English or use his own term for it? Which would be more polite? It seems that Robert is more inclined to use English terms so that would be better, but... Japan isn't used to using them and it sounds odd to him.]

...I will endeavor to use the correct honorific from now on.

You don't need to trouble yourself overly much, Mr. Japan. The fact that you are even being formal at all is very reassuring to me. [He likes this formality! Even if it's a strange kind of formality.]

Then I will continue to do so.

[And Robert smiles, even if he can't see.]

Thank you very much, Mr. Japan. [He's the kind of person Robert could really get to like being around.

He'll have to introduce Japan to his boyfriend.]

There is no need to thank me. Formality is what the Japanese do best.

[lmao yes. Introduce him to your boyfriend, Robert and then Japan can be awkwardsauce.]
