Riza stood and stared at the land her mother had left behind. She was aware of Scieszka and Winry standing on either side of her, staring at it too.
Of all this she could have been mistress. The house, the land that had been in her family since before alchemy had ever been a twinkle in someone’s eye. Far enough back that they simply lost track of where their family tree was.
It should have been hers, it would have been hers, but she’d chosen the military. She had chosen the Colonel over her birthright.
And now they were trying to figure out what to do with it. Her family had been torn apart and there was no one to take over.
She had wanted to show them what she had once been part of.

It wasn’t much. Winry felt strange having Scieszka and Riza there.
She also felt that she would lose her mind if she had to do this alone.
They’d come back to Rizenbul because Izumi had found Pinako’s will. They hadn’t been there since the funeral and Winry wasn’t sure she was prepared to deal with the fact that her home was officially HER home.
It was all she had left of Pinako. Of her family. And now it was hers.
It meant something to have them there. She couldn’t do this alone.

Scieszka knew it was stupid. But she’d done it every year on that night. For as many generations as she knew of, they had done this same thing on that night. It was a family tradition.
The same meal on the same night. Her grandmother cooked and they sat up late, watching the fireworks and the celebration in town.
It was a part of her she wanted to share with them.
