Title: Closure
Fandom: Flying Solo - Ralph Fletcher
Characters: Rachel White, Mr. Snickenberger
Word Count: 183
Rating: G
Summary: Rachel wants closure with the school's counselor.
They can't punish you, Rachel told herself as she pushed open the office door. It's the last day and the bell already rang. Technically, you don't go to this school anymore. But that didn't stop her heart from pounding.
Luckily - or unluckily - Mr. Snickenberger's door was open. He was clearing out his desk, and he looked surprised when he saw her.
"I don't like you," she blurted out. "But I still can't stand that everything you believe about me is WRONG." All her old anger came back. She felt her face turn red. "I don't like flying because I'm 'attempting to fly away from my problems.' I like flying because I LIKE FLYING. At first I dreamed of being able to visit my dad whenever I wanted. But then I liked it for itself. Do you believe me?"
"Yes," he said.
That took her aback. "I won't forgive you."
"Get out of here!"
"I will!" Rachel said and turned around. Before she left, she looked over her shoulder and said, "You should be fired."
"Get out, you brat!"
She hurried away. It was summer, and she would never see him again, thank goodness.
Title: Rescued
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Percy, Fred, George
Word Count: 134
Rating: G
Summary: Percy at the end of Chamber of Secrets.
The Gryffindor sixth year boys' dorm was as quiet as the library at midnight. Percy was the only one there. He stared at his bed's tapestry. Why hadn't he paid more attention to Ginny? Why hadn't he made her tell him what was bothering her? He had been selfish, too focused on his concern for Penny, and now his sister was dead. He hated himself.
He recognized Fred's and George's footsteps on the stairs. "They found her!"
Percy jumped up. "What?"
"Ron and Harry!"
"They rescued Ginny!"
He blinked away the tears that came to his eyes. He'd heard of crying with joy in a Muggle book, but he'd never done it before. George pulled his arm. "Come on, Percy, she's in the hospital wing, let's go!"
He didn't need to be told twice.
Title: Lessons
Fandom: False Colours - Georgette Heyer
Characters: Cressy, Patience
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Summary: Cressy shows her future sister-in-law the ropes.
"The second son of a duke," said Cressy.
"Lord, his Christian name."
"His wife."
"Lady, her Christian name," Patience said.
"No, that's the daughter of a duke. A duke's younger son's wife is addressed as Lady, her husband's Christian name."
"Dear me," sighed Patience. "I have so much to learn."
"You have months to learn an entire lifetime's worth of knowledge. You are an excellent pupil," said Cressy, who meant it.
"You are an excellent teacher. Are we done with titles?"
"Yes. What would you like to study next? Do you know how to dance?"
"No, but I want to."
Title: Include Women in the Sequel
Fandom: Hamilton
Characters: Angelica Schuyler
Word Count: 137
Rating: G
Summary: "Senator Schuyler, how does it feel to see your bill passed?"
Warnings: Issuefic and probably not very realistic.
"Senator Schuyler," said the reporter. "How does it feel to see your bill passed?"
"It feels excellent. America is the land of opportunity." Angelica knew that was only true in theory, but she had to talk the talk. "Therefore, parents shouldn't be allowed to let boys have more opportunities or more freedom than girls."
"But isn't it over the top to legally punish them for protecting their kids?"
"No," said Angelica. "It's only illegal if you have different standards for girls and boys. The intention is to reduce depression in girls by allowing them to enjoy themselves like boys are allowed to."
"I see," he said, although she doubted that. "What's next for you? Are you throwing your hat in the presidential ring?"
"No. I want to continue in the Senate, doing more of this."
Title: Summer of Mourning
Fandom: Benjamin January mysteries - Barbara Hambly
Characters: Ayasha
Word Count: 140
Rating: G
Summary: Her husband was dead.
Author's Note: I've only read part of the series so forgive me if this contradicts anything, even though it's AU.
Her husband was dead of the cholera. Ayasha felt her world come crashing down. She paid for Ben's burial and put on a black dress. Her friends came to visit to see how she was holding up. "How do you think I'm holding up?" she snapped.
Sometimes she had to set aside her needle and thread because the tears came too hard and fast to stop them. She avoided music as much as she could, since every song reminded her of Ben, but she still saw echoes of him all throughout Paris. There was nowhere to move to - she had a number of clients her, and she didn't want to start all over again. The best Ayasha could do was rearrange the apartment's furniture.
Summer turned to autumn, but for her it was the winter of mourning turned to spring.
