Oh, and we got a puppy (a year ago)

Ever since we got married I've been telling Obie that we had to get a dog before we had a baby. (Even before we knew how hard it would be to get pregnant.) I've always wanted a golden retriever, but Obie wanted a smaller dog so that it could live inside the house with us ( Read more... )

Dogs are cute & stuff but I'm way too lazy & selfish.

I'm lazy and selfish too, but having a fence changed everything about dog ownership. Don't want to walk the dog? Put him outside. He'll entertain himself, and if he doesn't like it, too bad. I don't have to watch him making the sad puppy face if I'm inside the house! I am always nice enough to check the weather forecast first. I think he prefers the yard over being inside the house because he has more room to run and there's squirrels and things to terrorize.

Plus, if I couldn't take care of a puppy, how was I ever supposed to raise a kid? Having a dog has proved that I'll at least be a mediocre mom. Maybe a good one. We'll see.

For the record, I think you'd be a great dog owner! Especially if you have a fence or an outdoor kennel, which costs substantially less. You did admirably well with your pet rats, after all!

I bet you'll be an awesome mom. You're funny and creative and you'll love that kid to pieces and let them become who they are. (English needs a gender neutral third person pronoun.)

I did have a dog once, when I was married. I loved Snork a lot. My wife used to tease me, saying that I wouldn't exercise for my own health, but I felt so guilty if I didn't walk Snork that I got my exercise anyway.

That being said, I'm 100% a cat person. I've never loved anyone like I loved Mickey, my white Turkish Angora. But it's rats for me from here on out. I love them and they're not as expensive.

Having a dog is much like having a kid, except this one never really grows up and leaves. I def prefer dogs :) and yours is a cutie.
