I just spent two hours listening to a guy from Chicago who lives here now playing on his dolsimer. He went to Senegal 3 years ago to learn West African rhythms and we hung out most of the night. While he was playing, I was writing in my journal as I usually do and I began to compile a poem about the experience. This is nothing new. What is new is ( Read more... )

I'm finding beauty in structure. It prevents me from rambling forever, and I just pick out the best things. This started with me just writing random thoughts, feelings and images over 3 pages until I finally decided to make something of it.

Sorry to hear about your creepy subway incident. I know those feelings all too well.

I'm feeling better and better about my poetry than ever. It was always a complimentary side dish to my prose but its developing. (after 5 years or so).
