I just spent 3 days in a magical town. 2000 people inhabit Göreme in Cappadocia. It's got a vibrant tourist trade that somehow does not disturb the traditional way of life. I'm in a town in Cappadocia called Göreme (Geh-ray-muh) full of eroded rock cone formations that rise like towers of jagged teeth to the sky and there are rock walls that have the aesthetic of a zen garden recently combed. I traveled on Sunday to a town in the midst of The Negev Desert called Mitzpe Ramon. I was planning on spending a night or two, and ended up spending 5. I fell in love with the place. today is yom ha'atzmaut in israel. the 60th anniversary of israeli autonomy that was won from the british in 1948. Last night I went to the main square in Tel Aviv to see the fireworks, and it was truly amazing.
