A frail teen and small boy scuffed along the darkened path; the meister reluctantly trailing behind the weapon. They would reach their destination in a few minutes, and said teen suddenly slowed their pace.

“Chrona!” the boy whined. “Hurry up, she’s waiting!” He grumbled incoherent words under his breath, and stomped ahead. When his meister didn’t speed up, he trudged back and added, “You know she already seen what happened. If you make her wait longer, you’ll just get us in more trouble!”

Chrona paused, trembling at the memories of being locked up and punished. Medusa won’t be too happy that her child fought lightly against Maka and her group…

“Chro~na…” Ragnorok sighed, shaking his meister’s arm. “I really hate it when you ignore me you know.”

After a moment of silence, he continued, “Medusa didn’t give me this body and soul for nothin’. You’ve made your decision to go against your stupid friends, so stick to it!”

The black-blooded teen gazed down at the boy; lifeless eyes attempted to focus. “I’m sorry… You’re right…” Chrona’s eyes rolled to side, blinking slowly. “Ragnorok…?”

“What?” he mumbled, starting to move forward again with his meister.

“Do you think… He’ll come after Medusa?”

“Shinigami-sama!” Maka bolted through the double doors, racing down the Death Room’s walkway. Patti and Kilik chased after her; Soul, Liz, and the twins still in their weapon form.

“Oh, Maka? Did the mission go -”

“I have to speak to you!” After cutting off the Reaper, she quickly added, “It’s about what we found.”

Stein and Spirit shared a curious glance, both noticing the hint of excitement in her voice. Shinigami had noticed as well, and cautiously lowered his mask down to Maka’s level. “And what did you find…?”

Maka cleared her throat, setting Soul down as he transformed back to his human form. “Well, we went to investigate as planned, and what we found…” Soul set a strong hand on her shoulder. “What we found… were Chrona, and Ragnorok. They had already, well, killed Justin and Giriko. Along with a clown…”

Liz couldn’t help but notice the god seemed somewhat relieved at hearing this. Was he expecting something else to have been found? Or maybe even, someone?

“Ah, well,” Shinigami straightened up. “Looks like Justin and Giriko were taken care of. That makes things easier for us.”

“…What about Chrona?” Kilik frowned. “And that other guy?” He set down his two weapons as well, as Patti did for Liz. The five teens, plus two twin shamans, stood in front of the Reaper, awaiting his answer.

“Well… What about them?” Shinigami asked innocently.

“Um, now that we’ve found Chrona, isn’t it possible to bring them back? Although I can’t perceive Chrona’s soul, so…” Maka continued awkwardly.

Stein immediately leaned forward, pulling out his cigarette. “What do you mean you can’t sense it?”

Maka blushed lightly and stared at the floor. “Er, I mean, I could see Chrona’s soul, but when we were in that church I couldn’t detect it at all. It’s as if it was hidden. And when we came face to face, the soul…”

“The soul…?” Stein repeated.

“It was pure darkness. It was quite obvious Ragnorok has devoured it. I mean, there was only one soul there.” The teen explained quietly. “What do you think, Professor Stein?”

The three star meister gazed over to Shinigami, who had been rather quiet. “I have a feeling of what this might be. I’ll need some time to check it over in my lab.”

“Sure, sure, fine with me.” The god stated playfully, before sternly adding, “Just be secretive about what you’re doing. We don’t know if she still sends him.”

“Right.” The professor promptly left the Death Room, curious eyes glaring at his retreating form.

“Who’s ‘she’?” Liz questioned in a suspicious tone, turning back around. She slung her arm over her sister, pulling her closer. “Is there something we should know?” Maybe Black Star was right to suspect Shinigami of lying…

“It’s nothing of importance to you children. Please relax and head back home -”

“Children? With all due respect, boss, we’re not children anymore!” Kilik nearly shouted, grinding his teeth to remain calm.

“Eh…”

“We do need to know what’s going on.” Soul growled, annoyed at the innocent role Shinigami was playing.

“Shinigami-sama,” Maka pleaded directly. “Please. For Chrona’s sake, and our own.”

The Reaper glanced from face to face, noting that all he was doing was just lowering their trust in him. Black Star had saw through his façade immediately, and that would probably be enough for him to find Kid. Shinigami knew, however, that he and the group standing before him couldn’t make a move on Medusa. And especially since Noah had escaped Chrona, Medusa would definitely not give information up on Kid’s whereabouts. The only thing someone in his position could do was lie and cover things up. Just as he had always done in the past.

“Shinigami-sama?” Liz spoke softly.

“…Tsubaki is waiting for you all.” The god waved them off. “Black Star apparently disappeared; so go check up on her.” And with that, Shinigami turned towards the mirror, catching Spirit’s concerned face. Ignoring his Death Scythe at the moment, and the disbelieving children, the Reaper floated silently back into his mirrored sanctuary.

Everything around him blurred in and out of focus. The talking in the background mumbled together like dulled static. His eyes were closed, but strange images kept forming in front of him; three slanted eyes would make themselves known in any direction his eyes darted. He could feel the ground beneath him now, it felt wet and prickly. No, the ground wasn’t wet, it was him; he was sweating. The cool air blew across his face, and he could now hear ragged breaths. They were his, he slowly realized, calming down a bit. He gradually managed to open his eyes, as his eyelids felt heavy and stuck. Gazing around him, he noticed it was sometime at night, or perhaps early morning. The talking came in clearer now, and at that moment, Kid sat up immediately.

“Argh, what should we say when he’s up?” The girl mumbled, accepting the fact that they would have screwed something up anyway.

“How about something like, ‘Betcha weren’t expecting us, huh’.” The man next to her glowed. “That would be awesome, just like in the movies, right?”

Kid blinked rapidly, trying to adjust his eyes to the dark. Those voices definitely weren’t foreign to him, but he still couldn’t remember where he had heard them. Blinking once more, he shifted his body and peered over his shoulder. They were a few feet away, apparently not realizing their hostage had awoken.

Narrowing his chocolate eyes, Kid tried to make out the figures. One was obviously male, towering over the other one, which was probably female. The girl was wearing a slouched pointy hat, and dress that appeared to stop above the knees…

She seems familiar. Where have I seen her..? Kid frowned, switching his gaze to the bulky man. He was wearing a short-sleeved shirt, and loose pants? With a round object chained to his ankle…

Eruka! Free! Why are they here?! Kid quickly turned back around, trying to steady himself. Wait, what am I doing here..?

“Free!” Eruka shrieked, startling the man next to her. “He’s awake!”

“Ah, so he is.” The werewolf agreed.

Kid froze, his stomach knotting up. Will they knock me back out, now that I’m awake..? The teen didn’t dare move, as he would definitely be no match for a witch and werewolf in this state.

“…”

“…”

After nothing else but silence from them, Kid risked a curious glance over his shoulder. The duo …just stared at him. Eruka was frozen with fear, and Free just had a blank expression. For a moment.

“NO!” Free suddenly shouted, tearing Eruka away from her state of shock.

“W-What?!” She eyed him carefully as he banged his head into a nearby tree.

“I’ve ruined my chance! I could’ve said something cool! Like in those old American movies!” The depressed man repeatedly banged into the splintering bark, not caring his face was bleeding at the moment. “Why?!”

“Free…” Eruka sighed nervously.

As she went to try and persuade the crying man from “damaging” his immortal body, Kid couldn’t help but chuckle at such an odd pair. The world was full of them.

Putting ridiculous thoughts aside, Kid decided this was his opportunity to get away. The teen stood carefully, slightly wobbling, and dusted his back off. They were in the middle of a forest meadow, and if Kid didn’t know any better, he would say he’s been here. But there’s no way they’d be that stupid…

Upon thinking that thought, Kid turned, only to confirm that Eruka was still trying to pry Free’s bloody head away from the near dead tree. Okay, maybe they were that stupid.

Kid took a deep breath and slowly snuck behind the tree nearest him. Peering out from behind the tree, he realized they probably weren’t going to notice he was gone for quite a while. Sighing with relief at his amazing luck, Kid walked forward, letting the shadows of the dark forest consume him.

Once he was a good distance away, he wondered if that werewolf could track him down. Kid had worked with him before, and knew that Free was more powerful then he let on. And smart, too. Pausing, he pictured Free banging his head again. Okay, maybe not so smart.

But how did he get there with Eruka and Free..? What about Noah? And Justin and Giriko? The memories of being with the strange trio were so vivid and real. He couldn’t have imagined something like that - could he?

Kid exhaled, leaning against a twisted tree; exhaustion made its self known, and he soon plopped down to the dirt beneath him. He knew if he stayed here, he would probably be found, but his vision blurred again, and the trees before him wouldn’t stop smiling…

Kid blinked, rubbing his eyes. It was pretty dark, he probably imagined it. The teen let out an annoyed groan and let his head fall back against the peeling bark. That’s right, humans are more susceptible to the insanity; and the fact that he is made out of Asura’s skin, soul, and blood, it’d only be rational that he were a bit crazy too. Kid chuckled, closing his eyes. That’s probably where his OCD originated from. A bit of insanity from Asura and rules and laws from Shinigami just mixed together as one.

The tired teen sighed, allowing the shadows to blanket him from any fear he previously had of Free finding him. If that werewolf did find him, Kid started to feel like he could care less. He was damn tired, and he would fall asleep here if it’s -

Crack.

Kid jumped upon hearing the sudden noise. Had Free already found him? He rolled his eyes and sat up. In that case, he’ll have that guy carry him back. Kid’s exhaustion and hallucinations ate away at his conscience, leaving him with reckless thoughts…

Snap.

The tired teen widened his eyes a bit, his heart beating a little faster. Free would have said something by now; he couldn’t be that sneaky, could he…?

Shaking his head, Kid regained some common sense and slowly stood up. He wasn’t the only one in this forest, obviously. It could be a bear, or maybe even a wolf. The annoyed teen shut his eyes and gritted his teeth at his stupidity. How could he even think of being calm in a huge forest like this? He’s been here, so he knows there are definitely wild animals lurking about.

Kid instantly opened his eyes when he heard more crackling leaves and snapping twigs. The sounds were closer now, and he could tell for certain that it wasn’t Free, as that man would have made a commotion searching for him. But these steps, they were cautious, and hesitant. They couldn’t be from an animal.

When the sounds quieted down, the raven took a deep breath and peered out from behind the twisted bark, struggling to keep his breathing steady. Narrowing his eyes, he assumed that all the shadows he saw were on unmoving, and therefore there was nothing there. Kid chuckled uneasily, and accepted the fact that indeed, he was losing his mind.

Kid rolled his eyes and turned back around, only to face the one person he least expected. He really did have ‘amazing’ luck.

“Who does he think he is? All bossy and secretive.” Kilik grumbled, munching on his chips. “There’s definitely something he’s not telling us.” The teen continuously mumbled to himself, as Patti happily patted his shoulder in annoyance.

“Why do I have the feeling that we’re totally missing something?” Liz asked, ignoring the pissed off pair to her right.

“That’s probably because we are.” Soul sighed. “I mean, how could Black Star have known something was up, and we were blind to it?” The white-haired teen propped his feet up on the coffee table, earning a nudge from Maka. “What?”

“Stop being so disrespectful,” she growled, raising her magically appearing book. “This is Tsubaki’s home, not ours.”

“It’s okay, Maka,” Tsubaki smiled gently, gesturing for her to put the dangerous weapon down. “I don’t mind, really.”

The said teen slowly dropped her hand, eyeing her weapon friend curiously. “Are you sure you’re okay, Tsubaki?” That was probably the first time she’s ever heard Tsubaki say her name without the ‘-chan’ attached.

“Er, of course.” Tsubaki was quite a bad liar, Maka noted.

Liz leaned forward, raising a brow. “You sure? I mean, Black Star just went off on his own like that…” The weapon trailed off, searching her friend’s eyes for an answer. Of course, her eyes were already a dead giveaway, as tears silently began to spill over. “T-Tsubaki?!” Liz quickly made her way over to Tsubaki’s side, Maka already occupying the other.

“Tsubaki…” Maka whispered, rubbing her grieving friend’s back soothingly. The tall weapon was quiet, tears freefalling down her rosy face.

“I’m sorry…” She sniffed, trying to smile.

“Don’t be sorry,” Liz assured. “Black Star is fine; I’m sure of it.”

Kilik sighed, placing the bowl of chips on the short table. “Yeah. When he sets his mind to somethin’, he’ll definitely get it done.” The boy smirked, leaning against the couch again.

“Yeah,” Patti added cheerfully. “He’ll find who he’s looking for. ~”

A/N: I know. I said I’d update regularly. I suck T_T
You can shoot daggers at me if you want.

But anyway, thanks for the reviews, they’re what keep me writing :]
(Even though I’m slow -_-;;)

Oh yes. And I have a question for you all; up until now, Chrona has been genderless (I’m already laughing at the people who are going back to check), so I’m wondering if I should keep it that way, or make Chrona a boy or girl. Either works for me, but whichever one you choose, that’s the one I’ll do~
