Name:  Kristina
Age:  18
AIM Screename ( if you have one ):  Snowball19872005
Who referred you here - username and house, if possible:  I got here through the grapevine, mostly.

1. Which of the Harry Potter books have you read? Which did you enjoy most?  I have read all six books cover to cover.  I enjoyed Half-Blood Prince the most.  It had great character development in it.  It also had lots and lots of action.  I loved GoF, OoTP, and HBP because they were full of action.  It's not that I didn't enjoy the first three... I just liked the last three more.
More specifically, I liked HBP the best.  Half-Blood Prince answered a lot of questions that we as readers had looming around (and it bought up some more!!).  It developed Voldemort as a character, and it revealed more about the night Dumbledore heard the prophecy about Harry from Professor Trelawney.  I like how the book had a cliffhanger ending, because that, of course, makes the readers come back for more.  Harry's going to have to work on his own to fulfill the prophecy, whether that ends up being good or bad for him.  He's pretty much all on his own.

2. How do you feel about Voldemort as a character? (Not as a person.)  If you had asked me this pre-HBP, I would have said the character of Voldemort was pretty bad.  He was very under-developed.  All we knew at that point was the fact he murdered Harry's parents, and that he's the guy trying to kill everyone who's not a pureblood Voldemort supporter.  We all knew he was a bad guy.  Now that we've gotten HBP, we kind of know why he's turned so bad.  He's upset because his muggle father had very little to no involvement in his life (not to mention the death of his mother), and that Voldemort's obviously upset over that.  Of course, we can't know totally why he's so evil because we'd need to read his mind...
Like I said in my original app, before Half-Blood Prince, Voldemort was very under-developed.  When HBP came about, it revealed that despite not having known his maternal family, he was eerily like them.  His biological family, to me, were true Slytherins... they were ambitious and cunning, and they didn't care who they may have hurt in the long run.  Voldemort was just like that, despite the fact he met his Uncle Morfin while he was school.  He had no idea what his family was like, and now that we know, we have yet a little more information left to ponder on.

3. Which Harry Potter character can you most relate to? (In the sense of personality, intelligence, character traits, etc.)  Strangely enough, I'd say Luna Lovegood.  She has to be intelligent (she's in Ravenclaw for a reason), as am I.  She is almost always in her own little world.  I am very easily distracted.  Whenever someone needs me, they have to call me three and four times just because I'm so easily distracted.  I have my own weird style, too, but I won't elaboratre on that.
As I said, I relate to Luna the most.  To elaborate a bit more, whenever I read any kind of description of Luna in one of the books, I'm startled about it because it's almost describing me down to the letter.  She is very easily distracted, as am I.  I can be sitting in a class listening to my professor speaking, but I'll be distracted by the bird outside.  Whenever we see her in a book, she is almost always alone.  I am almost always alone whenever someone finds me.  I, like Luna, would much rather be in a large group.  I think the quote in Half-Blood Prince said it best... she said the DA was "like having friends."  She has friends, but she prefers more friends.  That's just like me!!

4. Who is your favorite Harry Potter character? Least favorite?  I have a guilty pleasure for Gilderoy Lockhart, but he's not my favorite.  :)  My favorite character is Nymphadora Tonks.  I just feel that I can identify with her the most.  Whenever she has a part in one of the books, she gives off the vibes that she was a good student, but she wanted to get out of school so that she could get into the real world already!!  That's exactly like me.  I was good in high school, but I just wanted to get out of school so I could move on to bigger and better things.  Plus, she's young, and she's accomplished so much!!  She's an auror, which would be my wizarding dream job, for sure.
I also especially like her metamorphagus ability.  It's not that I'm insecure about my appearance, but wouldn't it be awesome to be able to change your appearance?  I would love to be able to change my hair (my hair is crazy as is!!).  As I said before, she seemed to me that she was the kind of person who wanted to get out of Hogwarts so she could experience the real world!!  I want to get out of college already so I can experience the real world!!  I also said that I would be an auror if I were a witch.  That hasn't changed at all.  I would love to be an auror... I pretty much live life on my toes, not to mention that being an auror is probably a risky job... I'm up for it.

My least favorite character is probably Bellatrix Lestrange.  She's the epitome of evil.  I'd even go as far as to say that she's more evil than Voldemort.  She has no regards of the people around her.  She has a really cold personality.  I hated her when she killed Sirius and laughed about it.  I swear, if she popped up in front of me right now, I'd strangle her.
I still hate Bellatrix.  I feel a sense of animosity whenever I read about her in the books.  I mean, why would you want to torture a husband and wife who have a young child?  For fun?  Why?  I don't get that part.  Torture is bad enough, but she murdered her cousin, Sirius.  That pushed me over the edge.  I absolutely hate Bellatrix Lestrange.  I'm sure that there's somehow more to her than meets the eye, but right now, I can't stand her!!

5. What thing, event, or person has had the most impact in your life? (Please don't use yourself because you can't think of someone/something else. Think hard!)  This one is easy.  My high school band director has had the most impact in my life.  Right now, I'm a communications major in college, and I'm seriously thinking of doing a music minor.  My band director has done music for most of his life.  If you met him right now, you would see that he loves his job.  Being a band director isn't the most high-paying job in the world.  He's doing his job because of the passion of the music, not because he wants to be rolling in money.  He has shown me (and lots of others before me) that you don't need a high-paying job to be happy.  Doing a job you love is the most rewarding feeling in the world.  Anyway, I think I could do well in... broadcasting and music (today, anyway... lol).  I don't care about the money.  I care about having fun in life.
I'd also like to add that he reinforced my love of music.  I went to another school and was in band for two years before I transferred to the one I just graduated from.  When the time came for me to fill out which extracurricular activity I wanted to do, I seriously considered not filling band out.  At that moment, that didn't seem like something I wanted to do.  Today, I am really glad I did band in middle school and high school.  My band director truly showed me that music is fun.  If I hadn't said I wanted to do band, then where would I be?  Who would I be friends with?  Would I even be in college?  Music is my life.  If I woke up deaf tomorrow, I wouldn't know what I'd do!!  I'm still considering a music minor, but I'm starting to delve into my major.  In my original answer, I said that I wanted to do broadcasting, but now I'm considering journalism, especially since my communications class went to a magazine publishing place a few days ago.

6. What makes a friendship valuable to you?  I have lots and lots of friends.  I'm in college band, and that's a great way to meet people, let me tell you.  :)  Anyway, with all of these friends, I feel I can tell each one different things.  I am friends with each person for different reasons.  She may be in my section, so we see each other a lot of the time, and he sits behind me when we play at a football game, so we have nice conversations between plays.  Anyway, there are a few that I can tell everything to.  I value friendship because of trust.  If I can totally trust someone, then they will be a great friend.  I also want someone who has a shoulder to cry on, and someone who can talk and listen to me when I have a tough day.
It takes a lot for me to trust someone.  I don't really know what my deal is, but I just can't walk up to a complete stranger and tell them my life story.  That doesn't work for me.  For me, I need to sit down with someone one-on-one and talk to them for awhile before I start to open up.  I am the most quiet person if I don't know someone, but I can be the most talkative person if I know someone really well.  Like I said before, trust is what makes friendship valuable to me.

7. If you had a hero (real or literary) who would it be? (Please keep in mind that we're asking IF you had one, and again please don't use yourself because you can't think of someone else. Be creative!)   My roommate, for sure.  She grew up... not so well off as I am.  She finished fourth in her class, and she has almost a full-ride scholarship.  She is a great euphonium/baritone player, too.  She also always studies.  That's how she does well in her classes (what a concept!!  lol).  She has taught me to manage my money, too.  That's really saying something.
I still really admire her.  She is the person I want to be.  She's outgoing when I'm really shy.  I really hate to say it, but I meet lots of people because of her.  People are really magnetized to her, and when I'm with her, I can meet new people.  Plus, like I said before, she helped me manage my money when I had no money sense prior to college.  She has taught me to buy cheaper (and sometimes better) things with my money.  I ♥ my roommate to death!!

8. What are your personal aspirations for your future?  I want to do it all.  I'm in college right now, obviously.  If and when I finish, I want to see the world.  I have never left the country, and I really want to!!  I really want to see Australia because it seems so different from the life I live now.  I want to go scuba diving because I love to swim, and skydiving right after that.  I don't want to live life with loads and loads of what ifs.  I don't want to regret anything.  As far as career... ask me again in a year.  :)
Now that I read my old answer, this reminds me deeply of something.  Has anyone seen RENT?  I hadn't seen it prior to making my original application, but now that I look at it, this is creepy!!  The whole point of RENT is about living your life day by day with no regrets.
Also, I just found out that my family is going on a cruise to Mexico, the Cayman Islands, and Belize.  I'm already fulfilling one of my goals!!  I still want to go to Australia, though.  That is my ultimate goal in the long run!!

9. What are your most prominent personality traits, good or bad? Which one do you feel best defines who you are as a person?  I'm really dedicated.  I don't do anything halfway.  If I have a report due in a month, I'll say that I'll write a paragraph of it today, and I'll finish it in a few days so I won't have to worry about it.  I'll end up doing the paragraph, perfecting it many many times over, then I'll realize that if I put this in a paragraph before it, and this after it then it'll be perfect.  Pretty soon, I've finished my report today when I didn't even want to do it that quick!!  ;)
I am still very dedicated.  As I said above, I CANNOT do anything halfway.  I can't do part of something, put it down, and work on it later.  That doesn't do it for me.  If I were to do that, I would be bothered by it tremendously.  It would bother me all day until I had the time to get back to what I was doing.  That's how dedicated I am.

My worst would have to be insecurity.  I'm not saying that I'm insecure about my looks or anything, but I'm quite shy.  Whenever you drop me into a room full of strangers, I'm completely out of my element.  I'd just stand there and look around not really knowing what to do.  I wait for someone to approach me first.  That's quite tedious.  I really hate my shyness.  I usually hang out with people with outgoing personalities, so it's that much worse.  I really wish I could remedy all those shyness problems.
I can't really meet people by myself.  I always have to be with another person when I meet someone else, to kind of break the silence.  The person I'm usually with is said roommate that I mentioned above.  I'm sure she's annoyed by me doing that all the time, but she never has told me that, though.  I still really want to do away with my shyness.  I told myself before I came to college that I wouldn't be so shy because I'm starting on a clean slate where hardly anyone knows me.  I guess it's in my nature, but I still hate it.

10. What house combination do you feel you're most like? Least like? (This is not pushing. It shows whether or not you are self-aware and may not have an influence on the voting process.)  I'm probably going against everything when I say that I feel I'm most like a Ravenpuff.  I'm in several sorting communities, and right from the start, I thought I would be a shoe-in for Ravenclaw.  I'm intelligent, I care about my grades, and I love to read anything and everything.  I was majorly surprised when I was sorted into Hufflepuff.  Now that I think about it, Hufflepuff suits me well.  I'm loyal and caring.  So, yeah, Ravenpuff's for me.
I still agree with this.  I try my hardest at my schoolwork, and I get disappointed in myself if I don't do as well as I possibly can.  That's my Ravenclaw trait.  I also care for my friends, and I would do anything for them.  That's my Hufflepuff trait.

I feel that I'm least like any combination with Slytherin in it.  This will be tough, since I've said that I think I have qualities of the three other houses.  Hmmm...  I'll say I feel that I'm not a Slytherpuff.  I'm only saying that because that seems almost like an oxymoron.  That combination seems really weird to me.  I say that I'm not like Slytherin because I don't feel that I can identify with any of the Slytherin characters we've seen so far.  That's not to say that I don't identify with any Slytherin character... we just haven't met them yet.  Anyway, whenever I think of Slytherin, I think of bad things... I know it's a common misconception, but that's what I think.  Slytherins are ambitious, cunning, and deceptive.  Most Slytherins have catty personalities, and I'm far from that.  So, Slytherpuff's not for me.
I am not a Slytherin at all.  I am ambitious and cunning at times, but not so much that someone would describe me that way.  I usually find myself not agreeing with a Slytherin character while I'm reading one of my HP books.  That kind of thing happens to me all the time.

11. Why should we not squib you?  Because I took lots and lots of time to perfect the application.  Plus, I had fun doing it.
I've been squibbed already, and that wasn't cool!!  This community seems really cool, especially since I've had it friended since I got squibbed!!  I want in!!  XD
