Warm stuff

Okay, so we're going to NM right after Christmas, joining Jonathan's family for a ski trip.... his dad and stepmom's gift to the family! We're getting excited, but this TX girl is at a complete loss as to what we need for several days of snow play. We are quite budget-minded (especially since we'll get just a bit of use out of anything we buy) and ( Read more... )

If you have decent boots, you shouldn't need wool socks. It gets very cold here, but I don't have wool socks for Korban. Josiah is outside for long periods of time (to work), so he has wool socks. You could always wear 2 pairs of socks, as long as it doesn't make the boots too tight (which would make your feet colder).

I find all my stuff at second-hand stores, or my Mom makes them. Not sure if you can find things like that in second hand stores in Texas though!!

I would love to lend you some stuff, but not sure if it's worth the cost of mailing both ways.

I would vote for wool socks--warm even when wet. Good advice about layering socks. If boots are loose, then layers will work. Otherwise, things can feel colder. Mittens are warmer than gloves. You could check Wal-Mart for boots.

Have fun!

Don't forget CraigsList! I woulda said just check thrift stores, but since you've already gone that route, remember you can even post a specific 'wanted' ad where maybe some kind mom that just moved here from a colder place can see it and help you out with all their old stuff!
And if they don't have baby-sized snow bibs for Mia, look for little one-piece snow suits like the one my mom used to put me in when I was tiny (it was pink with a panda on it for some reason), here's an example pic from the web: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Kmyj6Mcf9WibDDbMV0IWSA

And if you have any of those suuper soft fluffy sox, I love to layer them along with one pair regular sox, which keep the toes totally warm & cozy in freezing weather. I remember living in south Texas, having little snow boots as a kid but I don't know where my mom got them...I suppose you could always use those little rain boots at any target or walmart- just add warm sox, and tuck ( ... )

Yes - posting a wanted ad would be a GREAT idea - you could even say you were willing to pay a little to rent or borrow (leaving a deposit, or something!).

I would vote for wool socks too if it doesn't kill the budget, because you aren't used to the cold at all - those who live in colder climates have a bit more tolerance for the cold. The nice thing about them is that you can wear them around the house when it's cold too, and keep your feet warm - no need to hold onto them JUST for when you're out playing in the snow or something.

It'll be such a fun trip!
