Add another movie to the list:
Batman Begins.

Maybe it's because I didn't really follow the comic series, but I didn't think it was too bad. I've heard mixed reviews, and my opinion of it sits somewhere in the middle. Not the best movie, but overall worth the watch.

Moving on, this weekend was our SRA training weekend. I'm really glad I went because I got to learn a lot more not only about the inner workings of the Students' Union but also the University itself. There's a lot that can be said about that, and if you're interested you can message me and I'll address your concerns directly. But the one thing that stands out most, besides the fun we had and the getting to know others (even myself) better, from the weekend is the separation between business and personal lives. I've thought about this for a long time, and it's really difficult to decide where to draw the line, or even whether or not you need to in the first place. Sometimes, actually for most of the time so far, I've felt that business and personal can't be separated in any way, because everything you do is in fact personal because you actually are doing it. Your involvement in it makes it personal to you.

But sitting there today I somewhat felt that the two need to be seen as different entities. At times, frankly, I was a jerk to those around me when they disagreed with points I was bringing up. I really have nothing against any of them outside of that room, and some of them are close friends, but yet I still acted the way I did. Now, this may have been because I felt personally threatened, but at the same time as soon as roll call was over it was as if the meeting never occurred. At other times though, I've felt insulted when people have said something to me even if it was purely to do with something business related.

Maybe it's actually just me who has a hard time seeing a difference between the two, especially considering my lack of ability to let things go. I don't outwardly hold a grudge but inside I always remember things people may have done or said. Or, maybe it's the fact that this hasn't become real politics yet and since there is no actual money involved, no one is taking to the level of holding a grudge. But actual business, when it comes to the commercial and political worlds are much different.

One thing for certain that I've realized is the need, especially (or at least?) at this level to make business, business, and pleasure, pleasure. To see people - who have extremely heated debates and arguments during a meeting, even making snide comments and almost insulting one another - sitting next to one another 5 minutes after a meeting and having a good time, is absolutely necessary for this body to function. Differences of opinion are always needed, but they should never amount to anything more than that - at least in this forum.
