Al had expected Ed to wake up, for a suit of armor was not the stealthiest body to have, and he knew Ed would not be too happy about letting Ling back into their hotel room.

"Dammit, Al, one night outside wouldn't kill him," Ed complained as Ling climbed through the window, Lan Fan right behind him.

"You can't really expect the future emperor to sleep outside, can you?" Lan Fan asked incredulously, shooting daggers at Ed with her eyes. Al knew she was probably resisting the urge to throw real daggers at him.

"Brother, we'll need their help tomorrow," Al said, hoping to diffuse the situation. "He needs to be well rested,"

"Whatever," Ed muttered, lying back down and pulling the covers over his head. "Just don't let him order room service!"

Lan Fan sent one last glare at Ed, but did not reach for her knives. Ling was obviously not bothered by their arguing at all.

"I think it would have been fun to sleep outside! I've never been camping,"

"Young Master, there is a difference between camping and sleeping in filth," LanFan reprimanded.

Ling shrugged "Can't be worse than jail,"

Lan Fan sighed "I still can't believe you were arrested,"

"Why were you arrested, Ling?" Al asked

"Nothing serious. I'm just an illegal alien is all!"

"That wouldn't have happened if you hadn't run off on your own!" Lan Fan said.

Al took a break in the conversation, watching Ling brush off all of Lan Fan's lectures. They certainly an odd pair. Al knew that Ling took his goals seriously, but he certainly did not show it as he ran up room service bills and flirted with Winry. To say Lan Fan was more serious was an understatement. She kept a level head and voice as long as long as you did not insult or threaten Ling, and she always sat politely with her legs tucked under her and her hands in her lap. However, she did try to keep Ling from getting to crazy.

Al thought they were quite similar to the Colonel and Lieutenant Hawkeye. Whenever the Colonel claimed to have lost his paperwork, Lieutenant Hawkeye came in with it, along with new paperwork, and she would drop it on his desk and say, "Pleas refrain from losing it in the future, sir" and the colonel would laugh lightly, saying he will try better in The future.

Al also knew that there was something a little more between the Colonel and the Lieutenant, after seeing Hawkeye's rage and breakdown when the Colonel was thought to be dead, and how the Colonel's first words after defeating Lust were relief at the Lieutenant's safety. Al wondered if anything like that existed between the prince and his guard. He could not judge, because he had not known them long enough, but it might show up if he looked.

"Young Master, you must rest if we are going to fight tomorrow," Lan Fan said, more concerned than before.

"I will, but promise me you'll get some sleep to," Ling said, also concerned, "and don't give me anything about keeping watch, because I doubt an assassin followed us through the entire great desert into Amestris, to Rush Valley, on the train into Central, and to this specific hotel room."

"Does she not sleep often?" Al asked.

"She hardly sleeps at all!" Ling exclaimed, "She works the hardest of everyone, and refuses to take a night off,"

Lan Fan sighed, embarrassed about how the conversation had turned to her sleeping habits. "Fine, Young Master," She said, removing her mask and heading towards the couch.

"You can have the bed, Lan Fan," Ling offered.

"It is not my place to deprive you of comfort, Young Master," Lan Fan said, blushing slightly.

"I really don't mind," Ling said, smiling. Lan Fan blushed more.

"Even so, I must decline." She said. She did not lie down, however, knowing that the matter was not settled yet.

"Come on, Lan Fan," Ling pleaded, sitting next to her on the couch, "Let me spoil you once and awhile,"

"It is not a guards place to be spoiled,"

"I just think you would rest better if you-"

"Oh, hell. Why don't you two just share the damn bed?" Ed exclaimed, obviously peeved at being kept awake.

Ling and Lan Fan's faces went absolutely crimson, and their eyes went wide as the moon.

"Tha-that would b-be h-horribly i-improper," Lan Fan stuttered, fumbling with her collar and looking anywhere but at Ling.

"But it's not totally un-doable," Ling said quietly, still blushing. He and Lan Fan looked at each other, both seeming to seriously consider the option for the moment. Finally, Lan Fan bowed her head,

"You may have the coach just for tonight, Young Master," She said. She then quickly got up and went to the spare bed. She laid down, pulling the covers up to her shoulder.

Ling walked over to the bed as well, kneeling next to it. He brushed her hair away from her face before kissing her cheek.

"Sleep well, Lan Fan," He said.

"Sleep well, Young Master," replied, her face still crimson.

Lan Fan was the first to awake the next morning. Al attributed it to her training as a guard. She quietly bid him good morning before ordering a single cup of tea from room service. She placed it on the table in front of the couch while Ling continued to sleep. She paused, looking at him. Then, She leaned forward, kissing his cheek just as he did to her the night before.

"You really care about him, don't you?" Al asked.

"It is a guard's duty to care," Lan Fan said, quickly slipping on he mask. Although she did not get it on fast enough for Al to notice her short-lived smile.
