Hello! If you're reading this right now, then you're probably a little intrigued by this challenge. Make sure to read these rules very carefully before you sign up. This it how it works:

  • You sign up in the (screened) comments of this post with a list of fandoms that you'd be willing to write in and a list of fandoms, if different, that you'd like to get fic in. You also list a few of your favorite tropes (example: "high school AU with a lot of pining" or "kick-ass female characters work together to save the world"). If you mess up, just edit it or delete and repost. Do not make more than one comment.
  • After you leave this comment, you can join the community! I'll approve you ASAP.
  • Every week, I'll post an entry where you can opt into that week's exchange. You have 24 hours to do so.
  • Once you sign up, I'll randomly pair people up and either assign you two fandoms that you have in common (wherein you'll have to write a crossover fic) or one fandom that you have in common and a random prompt or two. This assignment will be emailed to you.
  • Your assignment is to write a 500 (or more) word ficlet in 5 days for this mysterious person.
  • The ficlets will be posted to this community for your recipient to enjoy, identities will be revealed, and everything starts over again the next week!

Pros: You'll almost feel obligated to write these 500 words, otherwise that person doesn't get fic - but it's only 500 words in 5 days, so it isn't too difficult. You don't have to participate every single week. It's a very low-pressure way of forcing yourself to write different themes in different fandoms.

    Cons: ??

Once in a rare while, we'll have a week where it doesn't matter what fandom you write in, you just have to fill one or more of your assigned person's favorite tropes. More information will be given out in emails and other posts, but the gist of it is: you're not committing to anything by signing up, and it's a 500 word in 5 days fic exchange challenge.

Please comment with the following information:

    Email address:
Fandoms that you are willing to write in:
Fandoms that you would like to read fic in: [only if there are more that aren't included in the previous category]
    3-5 favorite fic tropes:

Some popular fandoms: Harry Potter, bandom, Disney fandom, sports, other RPF, war miniseries, Doctor Who, Criminal Minds, Glee, Firefly, Buffy, SGA, and comics. I'm sure this is only skimming the surface, but it's here to get people started. With any fandom, be sure to specify what you're willing to write/read, if needed, as well as what iteration of the source it is, if there are multiple versions. (Example: which bandom bands? which seasons/series of Doctor Who? - plus - The original Sherlock Holmes short stories, the recent movie, or the latest miniseries? Batman from the movies or comics?) However, do not specify pairings unless that is the fandom itself (example: "actor RPF: Chris Pine/ZQ", not "bandom: Frank/Gerard"; "bandom: My Chemical Romance" is fine, though). If you include a fandom, you're basically willing to read nearly any pairing from it, even if you don't ship it.

For my sake, please list around 15 fandoms or more. At least one or two of them should be in the "popular fandoms".

Make sure that you include everything you can think of, for a greater variety of fandoms to write in! TV shows, movies, RPF, books, plays, musicals, manga, anime, comics, and graphic novels. Are you remembering classic novels that you might like? A past fandom that you wouldn't mind writing in again? A weird fandom that you've almost forgotten? Include them all. Feel free to sort them by media source (book, TV show, movie) if you'd like. If you need to add something in, something recent that you've just gotten into, simply post a new comment and delete the old one.

Feel free to pimp this community and, even if this entry has been up for a few months, feel free to join in at any time. Questions may be addressed to this post or you can message me, but read this entry thoroughly before you ask anything. Please. Happy writing!

PS: The ficlet entries will be locked, so you'll need to join to be able to read them. The first sign-up post will be on Friday, July 30.
