5/50 Global Capitalism: Its Fall and Rise in the Twentieth Century by Jeffrey A. Frieden
I have a self-imposed rule that I wouldn't post any textbooks unless I would've read the book anyway (like Amartya Sen's Development as Freedom which I'm working on right now). But this mammoth history book took up a lot of time I would've used elsewhere so I'm counting it. And it's good stuff to know: a lot of high school history books are so skimpy on the 20th century otherwise.
6/50 A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
I fell out of this book somewhere in the middle, picked it up again yesterday and ended up finishing it. (Such a bad timing too: I have stuff to do!) I love Hosseini's ability to take a person (several people) from childhood to adulthood in a believable honest manner. I think the Part 3 was my favorite section of the entire book; I cried at the end of it.
