I've been awfully lazy and haven't read that much this year at all. Wait, to be more exact, I've read a ton, I just haven't actually finished anything I've started reading. xD I don't know, there are other things that have come up and have proved to be more important.
7/50 Old Magic by Marianne Curley
A mediocre book I read in an afternoon. I like reading mediocre books every now and then because they help me write. xD "This is a published book," I think to myself, "and I can probably write at least that well." I just get very bad writer's block and sometimes reading books like this help. Or sometimes they're just funny.
8/50 Children of the Lamp: The Akhenaten Adventure by P.B. Kerr
A children's book. I've been on a children's book kick lately, for some reason. They're fun, and they're easy to read. The Akhenaten Adventure was ok. I liked the concept of djinn as the guardians of luck. I didn't like as much the concept of good djinn & bad djinn. Inevitable in a children's book, I guess, but I've definitely seen my share of children's books who don't have to take that road. I also can't believe Kerr (who is British) felt like he had to take potshots at the French. *sigh* The book had quite a number of wonders in it (kids turning into camels! picnics out of thin air!) but I found the twins a bit vague in character and a general lack of feeling. Parts that could have been exciting... were not as much. Still fun, though.
Next: I have no idea, but I'll fish around for the sequel of The Akhenaten Adventure
