28/50 The Faerie Path by Frewin Jones
Found this through
50bookchallenge with a review that said it got better. It didn't (and when I went back to look for the review, I found a different review that said it became "too YA" by the end, which I would agree with). It was an easy read about a British girl who discovers that she's a faerie. I usually love stories where the protagonist finds out he/she is more powerful than he/she first thought, but I like it better when the author does something new with it (or it isn't the focus, which is the case in pretty much all of Diana Wynne Jones' books). Instead, I found myself asking, "if my baby sister disappeared for 500 years, plunging my entire world into darkness in the meantime, wouldn't I be a bit resentful of her?" At least this series doesn't come with a rabid fandom to make me hate it.
29/50 Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
Also found this through the community. The main character Aislinn can see faeries and is being pursued by two of them. One is the Summer King looking for his Summer Queen. The other is his ex.
I ended up really enjoying the book, despite me not liking tattooes or excessive piercings (prudish much, LOL?) and reading the ending before the middle. I liked the "twist" in the end, where it was still a happy ending, but maybe not the way you would think, judging from the summary. If that makes sense.
Next: Maybe The Luxe, but I'm realizing that a lot of the books I've got right now feature a frivolous heroine for a main character, and I can only read those in controlled amounts before I want to slap someone. It's just me. >_<
