I think with collaborations it makes the most sense to just take them on a case by case basis. Before you read a book by multiple creators it's hard to guess whether each person contributed equally or one is going to significantly overshadow the other(s). Going with your gut feeling about whether a book contributed to what you're trying to achieve by doing the challenge makes complete sense to me.
Thank you, pauraque. I think you're right. I think part of what made it work with Rhymes With Lust was the supporting material - the original authors included a special bio of the illustrator and notes about his contributions to the field as appendices, and it just... went further.
I don't want to randomly drop books off the list just because I didn't like them, but I think you make a really good point, that it's not always obvious in advance how it's going to come out.
