CHARACTER INFO
Name: Alfred F. Kirkland-Jones
Age: 18
Fandom: Axis Powers Hetalia
Appearance: A blond haired teen. Due to his well-to-do family, he has been kept pretty well groomed in spite of how awkward classy clothing and a perfectly fine tuned appearance makes him feel (and that awkward feeling sometimes shows). Still, in spite of how hard he or anyone else tries, there is always that one lock of hair that refuses to play along, standing defiantly upright. Occasionally, Alfred can be seen wearing glasses, however, he stubbornly claims that he doesn't need them and only wears them sometimes because they make him look mature.
Now that he's away from home, he enjoys wearing really casual, comfy clothing when off duty. (Rumor has it that he even has ridiculously cute yellow bear hoodie pajamas -- though this has yet to be proven!)
Personality: As someone with a strong will and who doesn't know the meaning of "giving up" when it concerns something that he deems important, Alfred can come across as a pretty stubborn guy. Whenever possible, he tries to keep up a positive attitude and a strong clear voice that seems to ring out "Yes I can!" with every word. Even with this strong, often independent will of his, for the past 13 years or so since moving in with his father's family, he's learned to hold himself back in various ways.
What I mean by this is that, though childish in thoughts and desires, as far as actions go, Alfred has learned to place a cap on this "childishness" in order to better fit into his family's image of the ideal son when necessary. This sort of repression of his basic will is slowly starting to eat away at him, and he's not sure how much more of it he can take (in terms of his original canon, think of it as a mix of pre- and post-revolutionary America). Due to being the not-so-secret lovechild of an affair, Alfred has grown what might be considered a complex over being "number one" -- the best -- in order to prove his worth to his family and more importantly, to himself. That is not to say that he has self confidence issues, however. In fact, Al has confidence in barrels and yards -- more than enough: confidence in his own strength, in his abilities and thoughts and even in his own sense of justice. In spite of his desire for family approval, Alfred has a very strong sense of right and wrong that doesn't always fit well with what his family thinks it best for him.... (And as time goes on in game, it will begin to become apparent that this sense of right and wrong doesn't fit perfectly in place with what the Alliance thinks is best either. Alfred's way of dealing with this is just as childish as the rest of him is: secret vigilantism.)
Oftentimes, his desire for a positive (read: favorable to his own wants) outlook on things causes him to perceive things a little differently than others. In other words, it's not that he cannot read the atmosphere, it's that he either consciously or subconsciously chooses not to. As a result, he often seems like an even bigger dolt than he actually is.
Class: Alliance military officer.
Backstory: At age five, Alfred F. Jones found himself scooped up and away from a ranch of Beaumonde, the only home he'd ever known, to live with his father, stopping just long enough to say one last goodbye to his old, shabby farm life and to the grave of his newly deceased mother. As you can imagine, this was a rather upsetting situation for a child. He had lost one parent, and now another had emerged, one that he had never even known that he had ...and for good reason. Uther Kirkland was rich, well-groomed and above all else married to another woman. Married to another woman with children. As good of a reason as that might have been for his mother and father to keep their relationship and Alfred's existence a secret up until that point, Uther was not heartless and he cared about his son. He did not want Alfred growing up without a parent to look after him, even if that meant revealing the truth about his affair to his family.
Too young to completely understand the situation or the tension that his presence brought to the Kirkland family, Alfred lived the first part of his childhood in the Kirkland household in relative bliss. Of course, he missed his mother, but now, for the first time, he had older brothers! Yes, a full family and everything of materiel value that he could honestly ever think of asking for. So many toys. So much food. ...It seemed so perfect at first. As he grew older, however, that "perfect" dream began to wear off, in his eyes. He began to understand the truth about his presence here with the Kirklands and the reason some of his relatives looked at him in such a funny way. The older he got, the more he began to miss his simple farm life. The life of the respectable and rich was so... stiff. Expectations were set so high, and yet... a part of him still wanted to reach those expectations -- whether for himself or for the acceptance of his family, he could not say. And it got worse. The day one of his elder brothers, Arthur, who had once been his most precious friend before their falling out with age, ran off to become a... pirate, of all things, was the day Alfred realized that he couldn't stay here in this household any longer. He had to do something.
And do something he did. Alfred joined the Alliance, making it his goal to one day track down his brother and bring him to justice. After all, the Alliance was the Good Guys, right...?
RP SAMPLE
First Person:
[the video feed turns on to reveal Alfred, who is still fiddling about with his uniform.]
You know, every time I put this thing on, I have trouble figuring out how to get- Okay? OK! There we go! Super! You know what? Someone just managed to stand out above the pack again today! NA-hahahaha!
It's only a matter of time before they make The Movie about me, and when they do- [more fiddling and shuffling around as he opens up his desk drawer (which is messy and filled with doodle riddled papers) to reveal what looks to be a movie script] I have the whole story right here! ...Of course, it's based on the true story, dragons, fembot assasins with ninja swords... I was thinking a giant robot would be doable. I was also thinking Zapford Cloony could play the part of myself, if I'm too busy.
Of course, if you ask real nice, I might just save a role or two for you! [wink!]
Third Person:
Pretty darn strong for a kid. That was the first compliment he'd gotten from a higher up since he'd gotten here! Alfred F. Jones was still basking in the sheer awesomeness of it all as he ate the burger that he knew he wasn't supposed to be eating in his room. But hey. This was a celebratory burger! And he had just lifted a ton of weights, so naturally, he had to rebuild all of those lost calories. Letting himself fall backwards down on his bed as he stuffed in another bite, the new recruit tried to remind himself not to get too carried away. The feeling he was running with on high -- his first taste of that foreign thing called "independence" -- was starting to rush to his head.
Or perhaps that was the piece of burger. Laying down while eating wasn't such a good idea when you were too excited to even chew properly. He sat up with a jolt and a coughing fit. "Th- That was a close one! I was almost a goner that time! It went down the same way it does whenever I eat Arthur's cooking for some reason!!" He chocked out, rubbing at his throat. It took him a moment for his own words to set it. Oh. Right. Arthur, huh? He'd promised himself that he wouldn't think about that guy that way anymore....
A dead relationship with a brother who had gone off and left him to become a pirate. Ha. -But he couldn't blame it on that, just like he honestly couldn't blame it on their father or the mutual, uncomfortable hurt that came along with their understanding with age the seriousness of what their father had done. The word "affair"...
"Ah! If I don't hurry up and eat, the rest of this will get cold!"
