“I really should go.” The statement was as feeble as Sakito felt with the bassist’s deep brown eyes watching him like that. They both knew what that look meant, but neither was willing to admit it. An awkward silence followed, only to be broken by Niya’s equally dissolute protest.

“But…it’s cold out there. Look at all the snow.” Two sets of eyes looked half-heartedly to the blizzard outside. The snow was already piled knee-deep just outside the door, and didn’t show any signs of stopping soon. They looked back toward each other, locking gazes at a loss for further commentary.

“No cabs in that mess.”

“But…er…Aguro…will worry if I don’t get home,” Sakito replied vaguely. The rabbit had been his excuse in the past, but it seemed insufficient now. As he stuttered, he felt Niya’s hands brush his while the bassist chuckled, taking a tentative grip under the weak pretext that he thought the guitarist’s fingers might be cold.

Sakito’s skin shivered, but he didn’t acknowledge the gesture. Perhaps if he ignored the obvious, it would disappear eventually, like smoke. “I suppose having another drink wouldn’t hurt,” he said slowly. “At least until the storm lets up.”

Smiling, Niya led him back to the couch, reaching for the bottle to comply with Sakito’s wishes. Thighs barely an inch apart, woozy ‘accidental’ touches, glances and nervous smiles. All the while, the radiator in Niya’s apartment rattled and clanked away, preventing at least complete silence if not the cold seeping through the window panes.

Leaning closer, closer, and closer still. Touching carefully, drinks forgotten on the messy coffee table. Lean, calloused fingers stroked Sakito’s cheek between hungry little kisses, the wine on Niya’s lips more delicious than the stuff in the bottle they were sharing. He got a few words in, “But you know…I could just walk home…” that the bassist ignored with a musing hum.

“I really shouldn’t…” Sakito was cut off again, Niya’s arm wrapped around his shoulders, bringing him close and warm to his chest. “Well…alright,” he finished softly around the next kiss.
