It's a very good thing! You're going to love living in California where all your friends are. You will be mad close to all the cool stuff, and you can always go back to NY to visit and all that. Moving is always expensive and draining and frustrating, especially so CROSSCOUNTRY, but I know you'll settle soon and be so glad you did it. :D
In my experience it is better to try for something as drastic as that kind of a move than not; the experience itself is disorienting enough to kick start growth and that sort of high minded nonsense. :P I suspect that what's going to happen is that everything is going to just magically fall into place literally at the last minute - which is the one time that anyone is going to be suspicious of such. That's how it's always worked for me anyway. It's easy to say "try not to sweat it right now" but...well, try not to sweat it right now. :) Just out of curiosity, which part of Texas will you be coming through? Trust me, I know it's the stanky armpit of the central united states........
I'm totally of two minds about the whole thing. One side is not sweating it. The other is in full fledged panic.
We'll be passing through the panhandle, through Amarillo. Which is where my aunt and uncle live, and my only (bad) experience of Texas. I will not be informing them that my route is taking me there.
Yeah, I didn't recall it being near where you are.
I expect a better idea is to wait until you make a visit or a move to Mikhaila, in which case I can drive up and visit you both... in the same state! (OMG i'm going to be in California...)
So, here's the report, in brief: I think we may have found the place, and yes it's that first one we thought was "good" which, turns out, is better than we could have even imagined (I think so anyways and Lina agrees). Either call me or I'll send you an email with full details later...right now, very tired and must sleep.
We're going to have the time of our lives my friend. The very best time.
It's so interesting to me to read about someone else making the move from East to West, as I did it myself. It's like looking across a wide ravine to the other side where I used to be and waiting for my friend to make the same jump. Only I didn't drive.
Yes... the driving will be all sorts of... fun. Hence 'fun' places to stop, at least.
I keep wondering if the Mars Rock Guy is still out at Roswell's UFO museum. (He was this seriously creepy guy obsessed with his Mars rock that um... supposedly had living silicon crystals or something...) I betcha he's still there, still cornering tourists and freaking them out.

Okay then - essentially nowhere near my present locality which is what I was trolling for. :( A girl can hope.
And no, additional navigation details prob'lly shouldn't be open source given that.
