I.

4/5 of BEST crowded over the only computer hooked onto the internet intended for personal use in the entire building. Well, the only one they could find anyway.

All of them quietly stared at the contents of the screen, clearly in shock. Takaki, ever so clueless, opened the door and proceeded without caution. In that time it took him to enter the room, he finally noticed the rest of his group fighting for a better view at whatever it was they were looking at.

“Hey! What’s everybody looking at?” Takaki asked, still casually walking towards the others.

Everyone acknowledged the boy they were awaiting with unison of head turns and curiosity-filled eyes. This kind of startled Takaki and he came to a slow halt. He exchanged looks with each pair of eyes.

“I’m almost afraid to ask, but why are you guys staring at me like that?” He said with a foot ready to pivot and head for the door, just in case.

“Why didn’t you tell us?!” Daiki frowned.

“Yeah! I thought we were kind of like brothers here.” Inoo seconded.

“T-tell you what?” Takaki felt unnecessary guilt.

“That you were dating this girl!” Yabu pointed at the screen that exposed a bright and colorful purikura of a tall boy in shades, clearly Takaki, hugging a slightly shorter girl who wore a black and white polka dotted dress who seemed to enjoy herself in the boy’s arms.

Takaki looked at the screen with a ‘deer-caught-in-the-headlights’ look and groaned loudly.

“I’m in shit now.” He plopped down on the couch and seemed to want to smash his head on the coffee table made of glas in front of him. Daiki sat down beside him and patted his left shoulder.

“It’s okay. I think she’s pretty.” Inoo stated.

“Pfft, I don’t think Kitagawa would agree with you.” Hikaru scoffed.

II.

“Yuuyan! What’s her name?” Chinen clung to Takaki.

The older boy sighed.

“Kato Rubi.” Yamada answered for him.

“Isn’t she in some kind of group too?” Chinen shot another question.

“Yeah, she’s in a group called 9nine.” Takaki responded with a restless tone.

“Is she good?” Another one.

“Well, obviously, Chinen. Takaki wouldn’t date a girl who can’t even match up to his sultry voice.” Hikaru winked.

Takaki inwardly groaned for the second time that day and he had a feeling it wasn’t going to be the last.

“Funny, I’ve never heard of 9nine though. They must be new.” Inoo wondered out loud.

“Uh yeah, you could say that.” Takaki found the wall opposite him quite interesting this time.

“I think she’s pretty.” Ryutaro smiled.

“See! Ryutaro agrees with me.” Inoo beamed.

Takaki groaned. Third time.

III.

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” A loud screech was heard from a classroom.

“This is an outrage. Who is this bitc-”

“Now, now. No need for such cruel words, Mika.” Her friend patted her.

The girl called Mika held her cell phone in front of her

“How dare she steal MY Takaki just like that! She picked the wrong fangirl to mess with.” Mika striked a pose and proudly showed off her leader badge of Takaki’s official fanclub. “I will have her erased, literally, from the face of the entertainment world.”

“After all, I have very powerful connections.” She said as she started dialing on her cell phone.

An audible gasp came from her friend.

“You don’t mean-” Mika’s friend didn’t seem to want to finish her sentence.

Mika just smiled a wicked smile.

“Sometimes, I’m happy to be your friend. I don’t have to worry about being “erased” as you nicely put it.” She shuddered.

“Hello, Johnny’s Entertainment.”

“Hi, this is Mika. Could I talk to Johnny Kitagawa?” Her smile just kept getting bigger and bigger.

IV.

“Takaki Yuya, please come down to the department office, Takaki Yuya.” A voice of a woman from the intercom echoed through the whole building.

A groan was heard right after. Fourth time.

“Well, good luck!” Inoo smiled and patted Takaki’s back.

“He’s lucky if he just gets kicked out of the group, Inoo.” Hikaru rolled his eyes.

“I know.” Inoo continued to smile.

“Look on the bright side, Takaki.” Daiki thought for a sec. “At least it’s not as Kusano-senpai and Uchi-senpai’s beer scandals.”

Takaki groaned once again. Fifth. He didn’t want to keep this up anymore.

“Surprisingly, you guys aren’t making me feel any better.”

With that, Takaki slowly walked like a zombie toward the department office with his head hanging in defeat. He continued down the long, narrow hallway at a snail’s pace. He’s only been down this scary corridor when he entered JE, they were informed of forming the former junior group, J.J.Express, the temporary arrangement of Hey! Say! 7, and of course the formation of his current - soon to be past - debut group, Hey! Say! JUMP.

He took a deep breath, exhaled, and softly knocked on the door twice.

“Come in.” He heard the superior voice of Kitagawa behind the wooden door.

‘Here it goes.’ Takaki thought to himself and slowly turned knob and opened the door.

V.

The other members of Hey! Say! JUMP waited anxiously inside their rehearsal room, rehearsal completely thrown aside.

“What’s taking Yuuyan so long?! It’s been an hour!” Chinen sat on Daiki’s lap, jittery.

“You think they took out the bamboo stick on him?” Hikaru still found the spirit to make jokes about the situation.

Inoo laughed. Everyone else just rolled their eyes.

“Keito! Your dad is in great terms with Kitagawa, isn’t he? You should ask him to put in a word or two for Takaki.” Yabu suggested.

“I guess…” The English boy answered with a confused face.

“And if that doesn’t work, we can all sit out in front of Kitagawa’s office until he lets him join the group again!” Ryutaro felt like a genius.

“Is that honestly the best you guys can think of?” Daiki frowned.

Just then, the door opened and in walked the fatigue-looking Takaki who plopped down on the couch beside Daiki and Chinen. Everyone almost immediately crowded around him.

“Well, what happened?!”

“You didn’t get kicked out of JE, did you?”

“Are you being demoted to a trainee?”

“Did you get yelled at?”

“It’s okay! We’re still your friends, Yuuyan.”

“I’ll let you play with my hamster if you want.”

“Swearing in English might help.”

“Who’s going to take your place in Gokusen 3 now?”

Countless questions were already blurted out in less than 30 seconds. New record.

“Nothing happened. I didn’t even get yelled at.” Takaki closed his eyes and heaved out a huge sigh of relief.

It was quiet. Clearly they were waiting for him to continue but he just remained seated with his head on the back of the couch with his eyes closed.

“So, what happened to Kato Rubi?”

“Who’s Rubi?” Takaki asked with a straight face.

Everyone understood and they all started to go back to rehearsing their dance to their new single, Your Seed, which they were going to perform live in next week’s Shounen Club.
