Many thanks to starbuckjr for the lovely gifts received this week. It was much appreciated! In addition to chocolates, my next cultural exchange package to you will include Kim Harrison’s book, Unbound. Telling you now, so you won’t order it yourself. ;) I’ve been reading Kim Harrison’s series, the Hollows, thanks to starbuckjr’s rec and subsequent gift of book 9 ( Read more... )

Congrats to your son on becoming a homeowner! I wish I could get rid of my house, but that's a whole other story!

Damien and I decided on a Nook over a Kindle mainly because our library system works with the Nook and not the Kindle. It's been working out great and I've been downloading tons of library books. Poor Damien thought it would be his toy but so far it has been mine.

It will be another learning experience for Matt as he deals with the joy/headaches of home ownership. I've been hoping your house situation goes well.

I kept wavering between the Nook and Kindle, liking them both. I've been having headaches/vision issues so I'm hoping the e-reader will be easier on my eyes. Has your brother's headache gotten any better? I went to this Mayo Clinic site, then ruled out/researched the results that matched my symptoms. Temporal arteritis seemed to describe my issues so I asked for SED and C-RP lab work to be done and both came back elevated. So my persistent headache may be due to inflammation of the arteries in my head. I've been on steroids the last two weeks and the pain level is slowly becoming more manageable. I hope they can help your brother's headache. I know how miserable it feels.

Jeff is actually going to the neurologist tomorrow again because of the headache. They have tried so many things but nothing is working. The neurologist tried to wash his hands of the whole thing and send him off to a psychiatrist but the psychiatrist said no way, it's not psychiatric and sent him back. He has an appointment with the headache clinic up in Tampa later this month but no one is holding out much hope. It's been a whole year now and they are no closer to a diagnosis. He is so sensitive to drugs and because of his other problems, it doesn't always go so well. My mom was scared of his middle of the night wandering and temper tantrums while he was on the last drug. I think my mother is completely worn out from the situation.

I hope your headache continues to get more manageable! It's horrible to feel that bad.

I'm glad the psychiatrist stood up to your brother's neurologist. I've seen a neurologist this past year who hasn't been able to help at all with these headaches. She kept prescribing new preventive med each time and then wants to see me 3 months later, which has allowed the headache to basically worsen without relief. I've been seeing an OMT, which the treatments didn't help either, but he at least listened to me and pursued lab work which has yielded a new direction. He sent me to an ENT for my TMJ, an opthamologist for the headaches/possible temporal arteritis and then a rheumatologist since the tests also indicated inflammation in my joints/muscles. The neurologist has been treating me for fibromyalgia but it might be RA or polymyalgia rheumatica (which occurs with the temporal arteritis). So even though I have no answers at this point, I feel like progress if finally being made.

Hoping the best for your brother.

You are most welcome, after everything you've done for me, this is the least i could do. I've got a similar set of chocolates over here, all half eaten.

Thanks in advance for Unbound. I've already preordered Bloodwork, so it's going to be double excitement now.

Kudos to the kids. I'm guessing Distinguished means Outstanding in HP terms, so that's Excellent. :)

Congrats to the Big-Kid too. First you own the street, then the neighborhood... *grin*

I'm enjoying the chocolates. I'd never had any with pistachios before, and love the taste/texture.

You're right, the niece and nephew had Outstanding results. ;)

My son is the third generation of my family raised in this neighborhood, and it looks like we're here to stay! *g*

My husband got me a kindle for my birthday this year, and I love it. I was hesitant because I'm one of those book lovers who loves the sensory experience of holding and handling books and I was convinced it wouldn't be the same. It's not the same, but that's okay because I've found out I love having hundreds of books right at my fingertips too.

That's great about your son. Congrats to him on the new home. Right now, mine is driving me crazy just graduating high school.

I completely understand that tactile appreciation of books and was hesitant for the same reason. Though I'm already appreciative of having so many books consolidated with the Kindle and hoping reading it will be easier on my eyes.

It doesn't seem that long ago since mine was in high school driving me crazy. It's a relief he's now at a point where he can make a living at a job he enjoys. Good luck to your son!

Thanks, he is a good kid man. I've got to get used to saying that. Just realized Matt was 17 when I began my LJ but it doesn't seem like that many years have passed.

Good grief, your son is hot handsome! (er, did I just say that?). :o

I can not believe he's 24, and like, a real adult. Kudos to you for being such a great mom, you should be so proud of him!

As for the kindle vs. Nook, I have a Kindle, but only by default (long story), which I never use because I seem to have fallen out the reading habit lately. I don't know, my brain is fried I guess. My daughter has Nook color, and she LOVES it.

And on that note, I need to go because of a major shoe crisis with my oldest, regarding laced up shoes vs. non laced up shoes. As you can see, the maturity button has not popped yet. :/

Happy Mother's Day Sherry!

*giant hugs*

Thanks, F. *grin*

I've been patiently waiting for him to find his path and he seems to have found his way. I am proud of him, and happy for him.

I liked both the Kindle and Nook but just couldn't decide. I've been out of the reading habit too, and hoping this Kindle will be easy on my eyes and get me back to reading.

*love and hugs*
