A few weeks ago, I lost my wallet. Well, I assume I lost it. It may have been stolen, but I'm taking responsibility. Mostly because I can't really imagine someone took it between the time I got on a mostly empty bus and the time I got off it. Surely, I just dropped it ( Read more... )

What she first asked was if she could phone me on the number they had on file. I said I doubted it, as I expected the number might be in the US. So, while I had her on the telephone, I SIGNED ON TO AMERICANEXPRESS.COM and confirmed that it was a Chicago number. Which is all it could be because when I changed my address etc., the system wouldn't take a number outside the US. Argh.

Well it's just dumb. I was both incredibly annoyed and incredibly amused when talking to this woman. I suppose my ironic postulating of ways to get around this safety mechanism probably didn't win me any points with her, but come on lady surely you have to recognise just how ridiculous this business is? The best was when she said she couldn't tell me the details about why they were so suspicious. She will, however, trust the presence of another voice on the line to verify my identity. Hahahaha. thinking about it now, i'm no longer annoyed, just amused... So silly.
