Chapter 1 - Little things like that

°°°°°°°°°°°°

Of course this wasn’t Sawada Shin’s first vacation. He was 18 years old. Who hadn’t been on a vacation at least once before by this age?

But Shin had only ever been on vacation once. With his parents.

Of course this wasn’t because Shin’s parents didn’t travel often. They certainly did. But Shin had only accompanied them once. And once was quite enough in his opinion. So every time they asked him if he wanted to come as well, he declined and answered that he would just stay at home.

His parents hadn’t looked too happy about that, but after some time they had always given up about convincing him. Shin could be rather stubborn.

Every time they returned home, they showed him pictures and souvenirs and told him how much he had missed out. But Shin didn’t regret it. Never. Because he didn’t enjoy vacations with his parents.

To most people vacations meant relaxing, having fun, enjoying your free time.

To Shin vacation with his parents meant obligations, endless parties with boring people he had to smile at all the time.

Vacation with his parents was having your every move watched, it was speaking and acting accordingly to the situation. It was an act.

On vacations with his parents he could play the nice, well-educated son of his great father.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°

Now he was on vacation with his new ‘family’. The Oedo-clan, Yakuza, powerful, strong, feared. And still those people were the most caring people Shin had ever met.

When they had told him that they planned a vacation he had tried to decline their offer. He had actually feared the outcome of it. But they had insisted and so he had finally given in. When he heard that Kumiko, their ojou, was actually coming with them, he had almost looked forward to this trip. Almost.

He felt ashamed now that they were there. He had let his past experience cloud his judgment. How could he have expected these people, his real family, to act anything like his father?

Vacation with the Oedo-clan was having your every move watched as well, but not out of superiority but out of honest concern and care.

It was speaking freely what he thought and acting like it. It was relaxing, having fun and enjoying your free time.

And this time he didn’t have to act.

This time he could be just Shin.

The end

A.N.: My very first drabble. How do you like it?

I’m more used to writing long chapters, but I promised myself that I would try to make these themes short. So what do you think about it?

I know there’s almost no romance in there. Just read between the lines or wait for the next chapter, okay? ^^°

And please leave a review, ne?

Until next time, Joey-chan
