I expect the 2015 prices for plug-ins to be down a fair amount, so waiting won't hurt you.

I drove the entire day today, a bit less than 40 miles, without burning a drop of petroleum.  It's a great feeling.  I know this is going to get far more difficult tomorrow when temperatures head down into the 20's again, but just to be able to do it at all is wonderful.

Currently averaging 122.6 MPG.

Averaging 122 MPG is great. I'm lucky if (with my 18 year old car) I can average 32 MPG.

Do you have any problems getting the electric car started when it is so cold?

I have an uncle who designed batteries for space craft. I remember that he said it was really difficult to get the power required, when a computer is booting (after many weeks of space cold*), to still have enough power to boot the computer to light up the heating elements to let the power plant operate. This was a tricky engineering problem.

But yes. This is the sort of problem Engineers love to be able to solve. ;-)

*interstellar, really

The car is ready to go instantly after turning the key no matter how cold it gets here.  It may not go far on the battery, but the engine has never failed to fire up either (often when I didn't want it to).  There's something about having a hundred horsepower of electrics to crank a little 2-liter that seems to make the outcome inevitable.

This is interesting. I know that when it is really cold here (which is laughably warm to other parts of the country) I can tell when my battery is having trouble coming up with enough current. Sounds like pressing the key long enough would get the starter to crank over no matter what.
