City of Toronto strike

Last night was another one of those times that I venture out of my West of Annex / Bloorcourt Village bubble and I ventured south. I was surprised at the amount of garbage that has already accumulated on Queen Street. It's a bloodly mess! I also don't think it's fair to make the jump from 'everyone else is taking a hit right now' to 'city employees should pay too' - I think the relevant question is: is the city running a deficit right now?

I honestly don't know the answer. Though, somehow I strongly suspect that yes, Toronto is running a deficit right now. If that's the case, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask city workers to make some concessions. If, as the media seems to be making it out, the main thing is these 18 bankable sick days, I don't see what the problem is. But again, I don't know all the ins and outs of these negotiations, and they don't really affect me in the least.
