I say a prayer alone, behind my Mal's back, and it feels like life.

Beautiful.

I really liked this, too.

What I love about this is that it's Inara who dies and Inara POV. And your Inara has Mal pegged so well. I also love that Inara can't quite let go of propriety, even in death. She still wants to be proper.

Sigh...

Is it odd that this fic makes me happy?

(Writers who allow characters to be who they are always do.)

Honestly, you guys did a great job on all of these. The first is a little tough for me, because it might be just a touch, um, too shiny for M/I, but you added that little bit of angst still about Inara's job, and that made it real enough to be believable. As for the rest, they are fabulous, with three, four, and five coming into my top spots for realism and writing, and two in the top spot for enjoyability all around (ie, if I'm feeling blue at all, I'd pick two).

Anyway...thanks for some fun.

This is so beautiful...I especially like "he'll tear this planet apart end to end, and then he'll tear himself apart, too." I just stumbled across this community and I'm so glad I found it

This is so sad, but so beautiful and true.

Inara WOULD try to make herself presentable, even in death. Mal WOULD tear the planet apart end to end, and then tear himself apart. Every thought Inara has here is perfectly in character, and just what I would expect her to think in such a situation.

I find Inara's sense of the truth humorous, though - she understands that part of Mal will die with her, yet her last coherent thought is Mal's line about everyone dying alone.

And woe to the wretched soul who took Mal's angel from this world...

Heartbreaking, but wonderfully written.

Regards,
Omega
