I've wondered that too! Especially since they ALL do it!

It's such a well-known cliche, that the character in Big Love who grew up on one of those compounds, has that hairdo.

Yeah, why didn't THEY explain it? People who left the compound would come back to visit, and up would go the little hair dunce cap in front. Why didn't the nonbelievers go, "So, I get the underwear, but what's up with the hair?"
