[ History ] :
Initial Note: As with all comic book characters, many details and events get retold, altered, or retconned when spread out over many titles, authors, and plots. As such, I'll only be referencing events that happened directly in the Ultimate Universe storyline.
Official History. (Ignore the last three paragraphs, as I picked his pull point from before those events).
In addition to his own title, he has made appearances in other Ultimate Universe titles. He has met a majority of the other Marvel superheroes, including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, the X-Men, the Hulk, and Dr. Strange.
This history does not include any information on the reboot of the Ultimate Spider-Man title, which occured in 2009 and is ongoing. The original run of the series was from 2001-2009.
[ Personality ] :
Oh boy, does this boy have a personality. As Peter, he's your typical teenager; a little angsty, a lot sarcastic, and a huge amount introverted and nerdy. He'll still make jokes, but they're more of the self-depricating variety. Most of the time, he is mature for his age and tries to act more adult at work, but can be short-tempered when his opinions are dismissed. He respects his aunt and adored his uncle, but he's at the exact point in his life when he wants to rebel.
As Spider-Man, things switch over dramatically. He still has his teenage distrust of authority figures, but at the same time is eager to impress the adult heroes in his life. Captain America is his idol, he constatly butts heads with Wolverine, and Nick Fury scares him to death.
Once the mask is on, he's much more outgoing, extroverted, and peppy. Having been a target of bullies all his life, he can finally stop hiding and be his true self. During his first major fight when the Green Goblin attacked Midtown High, Spidey can't stop himself from cracking a few jokes at his enemy's expense. Peter admits to himself that the reason he makes jokes in battle is because "otherwise, I'd wet my tights" in fear. When he's fighting the bad guys, he talks nonstop, saying whatever amusing things pop into his head. He's an expert on pop culture references, awful puns, and nicknames. Most of his enemies remark that what they hate most about Spider-Man is his mouth.
But Spider-Man's not just a wise guy; he's also a smart guy. He's especially good at all things related to science, and was able to create his webshooters by deciphering a formula left on a chalkboard by his late father. He might still be a student, but they know him by name in the labs at Empire State University, and he's able to hold his own against the other Super Scientists in his world like Reed Richards and Curt Connors.
Spidey's wisecracks are reserved for when all is going right. When things are going wrong, however, when people have died or all seems lost, even Spider-Man can fall into despair. It does take something major to get Peter to unleash his anger, so he's far more likely to blame himself for whatever's happened. After all, regret was what got him into the hero business in the first place.
While comedy is his default, he does know how to be serious when the situation demands. That doesn't mean he won't try to lighten the mood if possible, but when things get dark, he can adjust accordingly. Most of the time.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Abilities:
~Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Does whatever a spider can~ So, what can a spider do? First of all, Spidey has enhanced strength, able to lift objects many times his weight, like cars. He's been able to hold his ground against the Hulk despite the latter's immense power.
Another ability is his enhanced agility. He's quick in a fight, constantly bouncing around and bending and crouching into positions normally uncomfortable for humans. He also has the ability to cling to virtually any surface, technically referred to by Spider-Man as his "Stick'em Powers."
The most important superpower Spider-Man has been gifted with is his precognitive ability. He calls this his "Spider Sense," and it's a tingly feeling in the back of his skull that alerts him to danger about five seconds before it happens. Spider Sense allows Spidey to know when someone is sneaking up on him, or when a person he's talking to is going to start throwing punches.
Weaknesses:
While Spidey has a strong sense of responsiblity, he also has an overwhelming sense of guilt over failing to prevent his uncle's death. When confronted with mistakes he's made, he tends to dwell and beat himself up over them. He's also used to working alone, so he doesn't always know when to drop back and let others handle the situation. At times, he will even ignore his own limitations and attempt to help while injured or outnumbered, which ends up endangering his comrades instead of assisting them. Peter also has chronically horrible luck. Whatever can go wrong in his life, will go wrong.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Weaknesses (Combat Related):
While Spider-Man doesn't have a physical weakness (like Kryptonite or the color yellow), he can be emotionally manipulated. He has family and friends that he cares about very deeply, and anyone threatening someone he loves can get him to cooperate, however begrudgingly, with their demands. He's also not all-powerful. He can and has been subdued by opponents, most notably the Kingpin, and if you drop a building on him, he'll be knocked out for some time. It's even possible to get the drop on him and slip under the Spider Sense if he's distracted enough. The Venom symbiote does not activate Spider Sense because of its previous relationship with Spidey.
Vatheon:
His fairy companion will be a purplish-black color, similar to the color of the Venom symbiote.
His marking/tattoo will be on his right hand, in the same spot where he was bitten by the spider.
[ Samples ] :
It was sad to have so much experience falling out of buildings that he could tell when something was off. One moment, he was on his way to being spider-flavored street pizza, with Osborn - no, the Goblin - no, the monster responsible for Harry's death, by his side, and the next, his vision went dark and everything got cold and wet.
When he came to, he was sitting in a water fountain, soaked to the bone and decidedly not dead. "That's what I get for crawling UP the water spout." Teeth chattering, he forced himself to his feet and stumbled out of the fountain in a manner that was less graceful than he would've liked. "Where am I?" he mumbled, because that seemed like the right thing to say after a near death experience.
By the time his vision came into focus, he discovered that he was in some sort of town square, and people were milling about, unmoved by the sight of a guy in red-and-blue tights shivering on the edge of their fountain. Was this sort of thing normal for them?
Trying to get his bearings, Spider-Man's next idea was to figure out where exactly in New York he was. Osborn's HQ definitely didn't have an ornate fountain out front, and the design looked way more Mediterranean than NYC's usual fountains.
"Well, I know where I'm not," he said to himself, mostly because it made him feel better. "This could be worse.
"I could be in Jersey."
