Just wanted to put a shout out, for the LAN party there are likely to be heat problems. I'm currently at rx's and i've had to shut down my PC because it was getting way too hot. As I see it there are two possible solutions. Does anyone have a portable air conditioner that could be used for the length of the Lan? The other option is that we all chip ( Read more... )

That sounds like a great late Christmas present - you can put me down for $40 :)

We've got one at my mums place...it's only a few years old but a beast of a thing. Well, kind of. It looks like R2D2 to me. The main thing is, it works. If you guys get stuck give me a yell we can probably arrange something.

yeah if you're available to come pick it up from woodcroft (and drop it back when you're done obviously :-P).
it needs to be somewhere near a window for the hot air outlet to go but other than that you can wheel it about wherever you want it.

If we can't arrange something with Elisha, I'd be fine with contributing cash for an air-conditioner fund.

Also, RX was talking about needing an extra two ethernet switches - has that been sorted yet, or does it still need to be taken care of?

Rx is still organising this. The company he ordered them from are being stupid douche's so not sure what's going to happen atm. We should know one way or the other by the end of tomorrow.

Divert the cold water tap from the kitchen through the freezer, through the washing machine [I can't stress how important this part is. Do NOT forget it!] and into a large cannon-like piece of tubing. Aim it at an angle of exactly 73 degrees from the original source [freezer]. Place one standard pedestal fan behind the tube, but do not plug it in. Place no more than two computers in direct line of the tubing, but no closer than 1.16 metres, otherwise you'll get a very wet computer.

You need the water to be in the freezer for at least 4 seconds, so ensure there's enough loops and back-tracking in the piping.

Alternatively, and for a less-effective solution, use donations and RX's money to get ducted air-conditioning. Not as practical as my solution, but should get the job done.

I can contribute to the 'RX Christmas Air Conditioner Fund' if all else fails.

Stupid not-proof-reading. OS is obviously tap, not freezer.

If we all drink Lipton Ice Tea at the same time the temperature will fall.
