Teaching the Heartless

He was dangerous, Kagome knew that, but now he was emotionally dangerous. It had been a week since he basically ordered her to his castle, wanting her to teach him how to interact. Though his servant Jaken had to explain further about what exactly she was here for. Basically she was here to teach him to be more personable, so his rule of lord would be settled among the other lords. Since sometimes wars were fought in the political room and not on a battlefield. Brushing back her raven strands, she let out a weak chuckle while avoiding locking gazes with cold gold.

He was handsome, Kagome could give him that, in fact his whole physical body reflected his stand offish personality. Cold, long, silver hair, frozen golden orbs for eyes, and he was clothed in his regal kimono which made him look intimidating. Now she was by no means timid, but he could put the fear of kami into any he met. Except, maybe his brother, but the again InuYasha tended to exercise caution around Sesshomaru. He had his one hand resting on his white fur that laid against his right side. Sesshomaru looked cold, untouchable, and powerful, which is exactly what he was. Kagome sighed, while nodding her head toward the silent lord, and demurely folding her hands in her lap.

He made no move to answer her gesture, and she let out another sigh. Well, if she wanted to leave his company, especially alive, she would have to teach him. "Sesshomaru-san." She started.

"Sesshomaru." He responded back, but nothing moved that indicated what he was thinking when he said that.

"Sesshomaru, when I nodded, you are suppose to respond in kind." Kagome stated softly, as not to impose his wrath. He let one aristocratic eyebrow raise before tilting his head a little in her direction. Kagome smiled a little, at least he was willing to listen, unlike a certain hanyou. She tracked his eyes with her brown ones when he flicked a glance to the window. It was prudent to note if he was going to attack, she needed time to withdraw her bow. His attention was only there for a minute before it flickered back to her.

"Follow Jaken to your quarters." He ordered and his kappa youkai popped up with a strained bow.

"Anything Lord Sesshomaru wants, this lowly one will do so." He muttered out, his hands clapped tightly on the staff. "Girl, follow me." Jaken issued but was stopped by a harsh wind.

"She will be addressed by name." Sesshomaru’s cold order was heard before his attention was returned to his papers. Jaken startled for a second before rapidly nodding, he did not want to get on his lord’s bad side. Kagome absently wondered if Sesshomaru had a good side, as she was led to her quarters and left alone. Sitting down at the available vanity she let her thoughts drift, one hand maneuvering a brush through her locks. ‘He is gorgeous.’ Her mind whispered, and she blushed lightly before gasping. "I have InuYasha." She scolded herself, before giggling. "Though he is gorgeous." Kagome added, before sighing and shaking her head. "Personality is a turn off." She mused before slipping into silk pajamas, that she wondered on how the lord knew her size.

Kagome merely shrugged, the lord kept to himself, always has, and now it was basically her mission to free him from his solitude. Absently she prayed that she would have a fairly smooth go at such a task before falling into dreams. She was unaware when cold eyes looked upon her with a glance before shutting the door and leaving. Kagome only rolled over in her sleep, and tugged the blanket closer to her chin.

Sesshomaru glided to his room, right next to his guest’s, and shut the door. He ignored the new scent in the castle, as pleasing as it maybe, and turned back to the papers that also resided here. Settling down, he shrugged off his armor, and picked up a quill, dipping it into the ink. Elegantly, but with haste he penned a letter, and sealed it with his crest. Calling for his servant he handed it off, and settled into his large bed, not once did his thoughts stray to his guest.

Kagome woke the next morning to the brilliant sunshine peaking over the horizon. She smiled lightly, stretched and then stumbled out of the bed. A knock at the door jerked her to a more awake frame of mind, and she waltz over. Another servant was standing there gesturing her to follow, though she didn’t understand the female’s glare that was thrown toward her. Kagome merely shrugged and followed the female servant with a sleepy smile, they entered into a fairly large dinning room. The servant showed her to a seat with a sneer before strolling out. Kagome glanced up as food was place before her, her eyes landed on the unmovable form of Sesshomaru. He looked as pressed and fresh as the day before, the kimono was only different in color. Slightly jealous at the fact that he seemed unruffled at the early morning, she stretched once more and then dug into breakfast.

Kagome heard a shuffle a few minutes later, and she raised her eyes to see Sesshomaru sipping tea with his eyes focused on her. Tilting her head a little she was reward by a raised brow which only got higher as his gaze slipped a little. Kagome glanced down to see what caused that inkling of fascination and she dropped her head onto the table. She was so relaxed and sleepy she didn’t noticed that she came to breakfast in the silk pajamas. Blushing a bit, she slid down into the chair while pushing away breakfast. Whatever reaction she expected from him, like a harsh scolding, she was surprised when he only closed his eyes and continue sipping his tea. Whether if that was offer her a sense of decency or because he was bored, she thanked him silently and then hurried away. Absently retracing her steps back to her quarters and letting a red blush stain her cheeks.

Kagome curse the fact that the female demon servant didn’t even bother informing her of her state of undress. Perhaps the demon wanted her to embarrass herself and get herself thrown out? For a second she wondered if that could be possible, before she shook her head, even if Sesshomaru threw her out, she would probably die of embarrassment seconds later. Quietly she dressed in a fine, and flowery kimono slipping a loose obi around the waist. Tying a lose knot, she flowed out of the room and then stopped. Exactly where was she suppose to go? Her question was answered when a different demon showed up, friendly it led her to the garden. "The lord will be taking tea here, he requested your presence." The female lizard demon informed her. Kagome thanked her, silently musing if requesting was the same as ordering to the lord. "Mi’lord." The demon greeted and Sesshomaru bowed his head a little in response. She heard the demon gasp lightly in response before smiling.

She noted that Sesshomaru was looking toward her with expectant eyes. Kagome smiled brightly and sat beside him. "That was very good." She chirped. Sesshomaru only blinked once, before lifting another tea saucer to his lips and sipping lightly. Kagome noted there was another cup of tea waiting and she wondered if that was for her.

"Do you not like tea?" The lord’s question washed over and she blushed before answer.

"Oh, I wasn’t sure if it was for me or not." Kagome responded. Sesshomaru did not bother responding to that statement, merely returning to his tea. Kagome picked her tea up, sipping lightly as she scanned the garden. It was really beautiful, and she was almost shocked that such a thing grew in Sesshomaru’s domain, before scolding herself. Exactly what did she expect, winter full-year around, and blizzards every few minutes? Unfortunately her mouth wanted to ask a question before her brain could shut her up. "Did you grow all these yourself?" Kagome inquired. Sesshomaru opened his eyes and looked over to her with a calculating gaze.

"Yes." He answered and place his tea down. For a second he studied her, before turning to his garden with quiet contemplation. Kagome found herself comparing the two brothers once more. More often then not, one was hard press to enjoy silence in InuYasha’s company unless it was a brooding silence. Sesshomaru however, had many different silences, as Kagome was finding out, and only three had been uncomfortable. The loose knot in her obi shifted a little in a breeze and she felt a tug. Her eyes observed as a pale hand tied the obi into a elegant bow before it left her vision all together.

"Thank you." Kagome offered quietly. Sesshomaru stopped with his back to her, and offered her a small nodded before walking off. Kagome blushed lightly as the sunlight caught him just right, and then she sighed. He really wasn’t so bad off the battle field, and when he wasn’t trying to lay claim to InuYasha’s life. She did wonder why she was blushing so much lately, as if Sesshomaru’s very presence inspired such notions. Sighing, she leaned back on the bench, bracing herself against the rough bark of a tree and gazing out on the garden. Before long she found herself drifting off to the serene scenery.

Shaking awoke her later, and she found herself back in her bed. Absently she wondered if the morning had just been a pleasant dream before her eyes fell on the female lizard demon. "Mi’lady?" The lizard demon questioned.

"Hmm?" Kagome mumbled out.

"Ah, you’re awake again." The demoness stated.

"How did I get here?" Kagome inquired.

"Oh, the lord carried you back." The lizard demon answered while brushing her hair. "Come now, you need to meet with the lord." The demoness added while threading a few flowers through her hair. Kagome only blush and nodded with a small smile, following after the friendly demoness. She was left in the presence of Sesshomaru and a familiar figure of young Rin. Rin squealed when she caught sight of her, and ran toward her with great speed. She was tackled into a hug, and she blushed lightly at the call of mother before hugging Rin back. For a second, she could swear she saw a smile on the face of the Lord of solitude before it was gone.

"Rin." Sesshomaru’s voice flowed over them, but it carried a tinge of warmth. Rin smiled and unwound herself from Kagome, bowing a little at the waist. "Good girl." Sesshomaru stated quietly, one hand resting on the young girl’s head. Kagome smiled at the interaction, and realized that her work wasn’t as difficult as she thought.

Frankly the lord had lived in solitude for the majority of his life. Most likely hated by humans, and tested and tried by other demons. His life was probably made to meet with such negative emotions, and his parents had left him early in life. However, instead turning to passion and anger, he turned to the cold to survive and strive. Kagome smiled, walking up to him, and laying a calm hand on his arm. He merely glanced down, not a glare to be seen and nodded to her. However, in his solitude he also showed his true self to those he trust. Mostly when he met people he would withdraw hiding in his cold front, making him aloof from all. Yet, when he was alone, or with those he trusted, he let down his mask a little. Kagome could only pray to be one of those people in the coming times.
