Picture Perfect
Kagome laid a curious finger on her lips as she looked down upon one of her only pictures of the two of them together. Her lips quirked into a smile, he looked just too funny trying to guard her from the flash of the camera. Her heart thudded in her chest as she absently traced his features, before she growled. She was supposed to be angry at the mouthy hanyou, insulting her just because she wanted to go home. Kagome knew that the jewel shards were important, but so was her family, and her future was important as well! If she didn’t put in some sort of appearance occasionally, she would fail in school and then what would she do? She couldn’t possibly stay in the feudal era, she wasn’t born there and she wasn’t meant to be there. So, she couldn’t possibly stay in the feudal era, it just wasn’t possible.
Her heart seem to disagree with that notion, and she felt unbelievably sad for the moment. A small tear chased down her face and landed upon the forgotten picture. If anything, the liquid of the tear acted as a magnifying glass to things she was trying to avoid. She wore cool colors, he wore warm, he was barefooted, and she was not. Her strands of raven and blue contrasted and complimented his white and silver. Their eyes hinted at each other, his a passionate gold, her’s a fiery bronze. Even their facial expressions were opposite, he was glaring protectively while she was trying not to laugh at his foolishness. A small feeling of warmth settled within her as she locked gazes with the ones frozen in the picture.
Kagome knew what was happening, but it was a course she could not take. He was still in love with her prior incantation, Kikyo, and his attention would always be on her. So, no matter what her heart thought, logic wouldn’t let her fall, after all, he only needed her to find the shards. This thought brought a cruel ache, but she ignored it while turning away from the picture. A knock at her bedroom door had her glancing up and for a brief second wished it was InuYasha. Muttering she waved that thought away, first off the hanyou would never knock, and second he always used her window when he was in this era. Opening the door, she smiled at the concerned expression on her mother’s face.
Her mother frowned at the conflicted emotions on her face, and her eyes caught the picture in her daughters’ hand. Smiling lightly she daintily picked it from her daughter and glanced at it before gazing at Kagome with a sigh. Gently she led her daughter back to bed and sat down with her. "Kagome." She started softly, getting her daughter’s attention. "I know it’s tough, being in two places, having to fight emotions against logic." Her mother stated.
"Mom..."Kagome stumbled out before tears started coming. Quickly she buried into her mother’s embrace, and let out all her conflicting emotion into her many tears. "I can’t, I just can’t." She mumbled into her mothers’ arms.
"Oh Kagome." Her mother softly spoke while running a calming hand through her daughter tresses. "We will always love and support you, but you got to follow your heart." She started and Kagome hushed her tears to look up at her mother. "They always home is where the heart is, and your heart is torn between us and that boy." Her mother stated. "Don’t beat yourself up over this, your heart knows the way." And with that she laid a gentle kiss on her brow before getting up. She picked up the discarded picture and placed into her daughter’s lap. "You look so happy in that, just picture perfect." She offered over her shoulder before walking out.
Kagome watched as her mother walked away, and once again she picked up the small picture. She ran an elegant thumb over InuYasha’s with a teary smile, she just couldn’t stay mad at the inept hanyou. "Oh, InuYasha." She murmured softly.
"What?" A familiar voice echoed from behind her. She whirled to find him perched on her windowsill, and she couldn’t help herself, she smiled and threw herself toward him in a hug.
"Eh Kagome?" He questioned awkwardly. Kagome just snuggled into his shoulder, and he just hugged her back. Secretively he smiled, he liked it when Kagome was happy, especially when it was he that made it so. Kagome smiled into his shoulder, her heart thundering happily. She couldn’t give into him just yet, but maybe later she could.
