sick kids have kept me from watching the episode, hopefully I'll get to it soon and then I'll come back here to read what you have to say about the show.

It took me till this afternoon to finally watch this one. I agree with you about the many good moments here....but this sums up my reaction to the episode as a whole: "....Cudlitz’s scene here *could*have*been* a stellar break through. But it was the 3rd such breakdown in as many episodes and now this plot device almost seems trite ( ... )

Ha! It sucked in MrChic too!

I think the reason for Cooper's breakdown is less sympathetic to begin with. Sammy's is pure, heart-wrenching grief. Ben's is betrayal and shattered reality. John is....'Oh dear, I may be an addict.' NOt that he isn't in as much psychic pain as the others. It's just more of his own doing. (and he cries even uglier than the other 2)

Sorry, did not have a chance to read your recap until now.
I also posted about the OC callbacks :) Loved 'em.
Yes, I loved Cooper's breakdown, too, but ITA that it's feeling a little overused.
Ben & John's hostility towards each other this week was great, it feels so real. Being a cop is not all lovey-dovey, no matter how well you get along. Ben McKenzie and Michael Cudlitz's chemistry is fantastic, no matter what side of the relationship they are portraying.

“I’ve been on the job since before your balls dropped.” (my personal fav, and BMcK never flinched)
This was totally awesome
