Getting off the ground

I was just getting back into the swing of LJ and my computer caught a virus. After purging the suspect files it knocked out the ability to open programmes. Then it came back again and whilst I've purged it this time I haven't restored its ability to open programmes. Instead I've manually opened our Internet Security program and my web browser,
