Thanks Deana! Most are going to rescue shelters (no kill) up North. Most of these groups have foster families lined up for them until forever homes are found. There seems to be a demand for adoptable dogs in certain areas of the Northeast! Eventually they will all be adopted into forever homes after they are spayed or neutered and any health issues taken care of.
I thought I was going to have to adopt the heeler girl. She broke my heart. So did the little Doxie girl but another board member is giving her a forever home. :)
Earlier, I thought I might have to adopt the basset mix mom and her pups as a last ditch effort to keep them out of the gas chamber but I think now we have found a place for them.
There are still some young black lab dogs that I am worried about. The South doesn't think too much of Big Ole Black Dogs and the pounds are over flowing with them. Weird because up my way people love labs and lab mixes no matter what color they are.
heh. that made me teary, looking through all them. i'm so glad you svaed them!!
it's so hard to understand the way owners just don't care about their pets. the dog in my LJ icon here isactuall a tiny little chihuahua mix i found starving on the side of a highway. his little body was so thin that i could wrap my forefinger and thumb around his belly and have them touch. i'm pretty sure he was just dumped by his owners and left to die. anyways, now, happy and healthy again, he's the most loving little dog i've ever come across. and i of course see him in all these dogs. especially that poor tiny little frightened thing. 8-(
i wish i lived somewhere where i could take a dog off your hands. especially that little doxie mix. she looks like she needs a loving home very badly.
Awww Your little Chi mix is adorable. How sad people do that to a little fella like that. Yesterday, one of the pound workders got upset because someone brought in six tiny pups that were dumped in a ditch out in the cold. The pound workers are pretty use to horrible things happening to the animals but that even got to them.
Things change so quickly. Apparently now, the funny little guy pictured at the bottom of the post is our rescue through the donation challenge funds. I believe he was pulled for another rescue but something happened with that so now he is our responsibility. Which we don't mind cuz then we can track him and make sure he stays safe. :)
I just added a page to my Not Forgotten site about one of the very first dogs rescued by Michelle back in mid Oct. You can see the old girl here http://www.not-4-got-n.com/id12.html Since that time over 300 probably close to 400 animals have been saved by Michelle and DRDR followers. :)
Gosh, they're all so very, very sweet!! I'm so, so glad that you were able to save them! But then I think of the ones that can't be saved, or haven't been saved .. and I just feel so very, very, very sad. The poor little things. I've got tears in my eyes just thinking about them. I wish I could adopt every single one of them. Damn living all the way over here in Australia! :p I wish you lots and lots of continued success in finding homes for the adorable sweeties you strive to save every single day! You are doing a bloody fantastic job!! ♥
Thank you Lisa! Rescue is a hard thing to do. Sometimes people in the group get burnt out and other times tension is so high that arguments break out but it's just because people care so much and want to save them all.
It's easier for me because I am not the one having to go to the actual pound and look into those faces and decide who can or can't be saved. I can just sit back and pray and send money and help put the word out. The actual people on the ground going day to day to track and try to save these furbabies have my highest respect. I just know I couldn't do it.
We certainly appreciate your support especially from across the World!!! I know we have someone from the UK that roots us on and several from Canada that get involved and it amazes me that our far away friends care so much about us and these animals. Thank you!!!!!
