I am quite sure that this was not done in order to soothe the frayed nerves of Russian language students. We are simply enjoying the benefits of some other endeavor. I'm just really glad about this, whatever the reason!
I am talking about some of the "imported foreign words" that don't decline. Oooooooooooooo, what a big relief they are! Whew!

"кофе" also "declines" the same way ;)

Plus "кенгуру, пальто, казино, колибри" and quite a few others. Never mind! There's a thing to spoil all the satisfaction: кафе, пальто and казино are neutral, колибри is feminine and кофе is masculine :)))))

You're a real hero! :) I can't imagine how is it possible to learn our language at all, and you're doing so well :)))

Аlso the followings are not declined: шоссе, кашпо, сальдо, нетто/брутто, соло, гуру, метро, Винни (short from Winnie the Pooh) and truly there are rather many words like this and it should be noticed as you did that probably they are all really imported! (that's came from other languages ( ... )
