Don't know whether you read the full text of the speech, but I don't entirely agree with you.

I know you well enough to know that you do scorn god, in the sense that you reject the idea of god, with open contempt. You're almost falling into the 'you have to believe in X to not believe in it' trap.

Also, he's quite correct about secularism & extremism both being threats to faith. Secularism demonstrates that there is a tenable alternative to faith, and extremism brings faith into disrepute.

Apart from that, I agree with you. He's a self-serving asshat who has no business being on any platform, unless he's sharing it with Jack Ketch.

US where opinion polls have suggested people would rather have a gay or Muslim president than an atheist at the helm.

Worse - where a substantial minority (including elected officials) believe that atheists should be denied citizenship.

PS. I hope someone else joins in this conversation, it's kind of embarrassing talking to someone online when they're within shouting distance 8-D

On the other hand I can see why a country with "In god we trust" on its money would be happier with a believer at the helm. Not right you understand just I can see why it would happen

For some reason I find the idea of an opinion poll about US president with options including gay, athiest and Muslim offensive but I have no idea why.
