Alright, I'm home. I've been home for a week and a half now. It's hard to get used to calling this place in the Middle of Nowhere, Florida, my "home," since my home home has already been sold and taken over by new owners, but that's alright, I guess. My new house is nice. Spacey room ( Read more... )

That's a fantastic set of personal/universal revelations to make; a beautiful setting for them as well.....I took a class last fall called 'Quest For Self' (an honors english/lit class), where we delved very deeply into different socio-religious, societal theories and viewpoints; with Buddhism and Taoism being key. I reaped immeasurable life-long benefits from that class; my life really hasn't been the same since. One by-product of taking the class was the wealth of literature, both fiction and non, which I collected, and will doubtless go back over in the future. When you're here in Michigan and we get to hang out, I'd love to have you peruse those books, and maybe even borrow a couple if you like (especially since you're liquidating so much other stuff)!

I know our friendship has always been founded primarily on music, which is great; but if you'd ever like to have a discussion about philosophy/religion/world views, I'd absolutely be game.

Cheers!

I'm up for those kind of discussions all the time, sir.

Speaking of music, are you still playing the open mics at the Bean? I decided not to try to be any sort of singer-songwriter, so I figured I'd just let all of my musical ideas, most of which aren't fusion, flow into the collective stream, if that's cool. I noticed my playing style and tone on the electric has been heavily influenced by my 10 months of only-acoustic, which might mean something fresh for the Pirates, too.

I've actually been looking at Buddhism a bit lately and I'm starting to see how most Buddhist beliefs are also big parts of Christianity. Just thought I'd throw that idea out at you. It would be a good thing for you to study that as well.

Or possibly think of it along the lines that almost all religions out there have the same set of base beliefs. I mean the Ten Commandments are a great idea, but they arn't exactly unique. Thats just where my view of not liking organized religion of any sort. Why take a great idea and try to put limitations on it or try to wrap it up in a book?

I must disagree with you on that. The Ten Commandments were extremely radical at the time with exception of the no stealing and no murdering. "You shall have no ther gods before me" - Exodus 20:3 (monotheism). "You shall not make yourself a carved image-any likeness of anything that is in heaven above...". All of those commandments were radical at the time when compared to the typical pagan beliefs ( ... )
