I didn't read the whole thing just yet, but I thought of something that counters the enthusiast press: gaming webcomics. Penny Arcade in particular, and Ctrl+Alt+Del to a lesser extent, mock and criticize bad games in both visual and verbal form.

Very insightful as always. Ditto on what bokamba says. But then again, I think your point still applies because comics like PA and CAD have a single newspost 3 times a week, whereas the gaming press has entire websites/magazines to fill. So while CAD and PA can avoid the preview issue, the others cannot.
