I bet they were fine. Cars these days are meant to look like that when they get in a wreck, because as the car crunches the energy behind the accident is disipated slowly. where as cars of the olden years wouldnt crumple and the people inside would be tossed around like rag dolls or seriously injured from the abrupt stop.
