My top skating moments of the year

Yes, this was a shitty year in skating. To be honest, after the disaster that was Vancouver ( in ALL disciplines, really), skating has been pretty much dead to me. I mean shitty judging and politics have always been a part of the sport, but it all came to a head for me this February and just got too much. Maybe I'll get over it eventually ( Read more... )

Unfortunately, I don't think I am quite as awesome as you are, Reet, but it often does feel like we share a brain and it's so nice to have someone who really gets you! :)

My concern is this: how do we get our interest/love for skating back, but most importantly: do we even want to?

I honestly don't know. :( I don't see myself really having that same excitement to watch competitions like I did back in 2006 and 2007. (I remember it so well.) I didn't really imagine being disenchanted so fast, though. I was already feeling it in the 2009 season, but the Olympics really was the final straw, and after the competition ended I felt like I'd had my fill of the sport for a while. I dunno, it was like the cumulation of many things. I'm tired of watching it and tired of discussing it.
Aside from the judging, I really do hate what the COP has done to the programs so much. And I kind of don't see that changing any time soon? :(
Maybe if some years have passed? Maybe if I try watching Euros this winter? It's usually not a competition I miss. It was always free of any big emotional attachments and just fun. Plus watching it with my mother is like a tradition by now and we have memories from seeing it live last year. xD Still, I see this one as an exception.

I know what you mean. I miss that time, but I also know it'll never be back, there's too much baggage now. ITA with you about 2009 and the Olympics, the shit that went down definitely did not come out of nowhere and the seeds were sown for it long before. I guess I was hoping for a miracle that never came. But I am so over skating at this point. COP is evil, I meant watching the soul sucked out of the sport I once enjoyed is so sad, and as the last remnants of 6.0ers leave, the soul will be gone. The new kids who grew up with COP are just not the same breed of skaters, they have been brainwashed by this stupid system and yeah...this is not what I signed up for and I don't see myself enjoying this again unless some drastic changes take place.

But you should definitely watch Euros with your mom. It's a tradition!!! LOL Plus, let's face it, it's more about you and her than it is about the skating so you should totally do it. :D Plus, Patrick Chan won't be there, and hopefully, the old guard will do well. You might even enjoy it. :)

For me the Olympics felt like the straw that broke the camels back. I honestly thought I'd miss it and come back during the GP season, but actually, no. I felt nostalgic about some things a little, but I don't WANT to watch it. Especially while Patrick is still around and Skate Canada is calling the shots, and I think I am developing an allergy to the word TRANSITIONS because they are killing the sport with this shit!

I also hate the type of skating they are promoting with this Patrick Chan BS. Politics aside, if this is what COP turned skating into, then I'm sorry, I'll pass.

I don't know about the backlash... If it comes, it has to come from the European skating establishment because the NA establishment thinks all is hunky dory. But hoping for the Russians and the French to pull their respective shit together for the good of the sport... yeah, I won't hold my breath. :(

We'll always have our memories and youtube, I guess. LOL
